It’s almost Fall at Gayle Planetarium! Don’t forget that on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the autumnal equinox occurs around 7:04 pm CST (equal number of daylight and night hours). Hopefully, this means some cooler weather … we can always hope, right?

Anyway, our 4th quarter shows start in October, BUT I need to let everyone know that the planetarium will be CLOSED on the following Saturdays (October 3 and October 24).

Stay tuned for our fourth quarter show announcement and upcoming Christmas show schedule! Remember to keep looking up!

Did you know comets are often called ""dirty snowballs"" or ""snowy dirtballs""?

These celestial wanderers are made of frozen gases, ice, rock, and dust. Technically, they appear in deep space as dark, asteroid-like objects, but ""come alive"" when they approach the Sun.

You can learn all about comets, asteroids, and cosmic collisions in our Saturday show, Firefall at 11:30 AM & 2:30 PM.
