COSA was proud to participate in the Annual Community Health Fair hosted by One Community Outreach United on May 30 at the Doster Community Center in Prattville!

This community event brought together organizations and resources focused on promoting health and wellness for individuals and families of all ages. COSA provided information on alcohol, to***co, and other drugs (ATOD), including va**ng prevention, while engaging attendees through interactive activities such as the Fatal Vision experience.

During the event, COSA Behavioral Health Prevention Specialist Na'Sha McFarley also recognized Mental Health Awareness Month and shared important facts about the risks of va**ng.

Faith, fellowship, and prevention came together at Substance Over Sweets at Abraham Missionary Baptist Church in Millbrook!

During the church service, attendees heard a message highlighting how substance misuse prevention can be connected to the characteristics of a servant leader. Following the service, the congregation gathered in the fellowship hall to enjoy sweet treats and meaningful conversations centered on making healthy choices and promoting substance-free lifestyles.

Thank you to Abraham Missionary Baptist Church for partnering with us to engage youth, families, and the community in prevention efforts. Together, we are building stronger, healthier communities.

May was a busy month for COSA as our team connected with communities across the region through health fairs, outreach events, trainings, and prevention activities!

We're sharing a few photos from a recent event in Perry County with Sowing Seeds of Hope, where staff had the opportunity to engage with community members, provide prevention resources, and connect individuals with valuable information and services.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit with us. We are grateful for every opportunity to support healthier communities through education, outreach, and prevention.

COSA, we're more than...

We are proud to partner with the Alabama National Guard to provide mental health trainings for service members across the state.

Recently, COSA led an A.I.D. Training at the Troy Armory with approximately 80 soldiers and officers in attendance. This evidence-based program helps raise awareness of mental health distress and connects individuals to valuable support resources.

This is just the beginning of a statewide effort to support the mental wellness of Alabama’s service members.

On May 14, 2026, COSA’s Behavioral Health Prevention Specialist, Steve Mitchell, provided a va**ng and mental health educational session at the Lowndes County Detention Center in Hayneville, Alabama.

Through COSA’s Block Grant prevention efforts, young adults ages 18–24 participated in important conversations about the dangers of va**ng, mental health awareness, and healthy coping strategies.

By creating spaces for education and open dialogue, COSA continues working to promote healthier lifestyles, informed decision-making, and positive behavioral health outcomes throughout Alabama communities.
