To the Soldiers, Airmen, Civilians, and Families of the Alabama National Guard,

​Today, as we celebrate Independence Day, we stand at a historic vantage point. This Fourth of July is exceptionally meaningful as we officially join our communities, our state, and our nation in celebrating America 250. Marking two and a half centuries of American freedom, this landmark anniversary is a powerful opportunity to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and vision of those who secured our liberties, while reaffirming our shared responsibility to carry that legacy forward.

The Alabama National Guard is proud to serve at the very forefront of this historic commemoration. We were honored to participate alongside Governor Kay Ivey to officially launch Alabama’s America 250 initiative, a milestone punctuated by a precision flyover executed by our 187th Fighter Wing F-35 Lightning IIs. This aerial demonstration was far more than a display of world-class airpower; it was a visible, soaring reminder of our enduring commitment to the defense of our state and nation.

That commitment remains actively on display today. While our communities gather to celebrate, members of the Alabama National Guard are executing vital support missions here at home and across the globe. We have Soldiers serving in our Nation's capital providing critical operational support for the national Fourth of July and America 250 celebrations in Washington, D.C. Concurrently, our Air and Army Guard units are deployed around the globe across 4 combatant commands. Through these missions, our service members are directly connecting the heritage of this great nation with the citizens we protect.

This is the very essence of the modern Minuteman: serving our communities, supporting our state, and defending our country. From municipal celebrations in Alabama to the national stage in Washington, D.C., you represent the unwavering spirit of the citizen-soldier. You are the neighbors, leaders, professionals, and lethal military force who stand ready to answer the call at a moment's notice. Your daily service is a living testament to the democratic values we celebrate today.

As your Command Team, we are incredibly proud of the vital role you play in this organization and within our communities. As you celebrate with family and friends today, we ask that you remain vigilant, look out for one another, and take immense pride in the uniform you wear. Your dedication honors our past, strengthens our present, and secures our future.

Thank you for your sacrifice, your professionalism, and your unwavering commitment to the State of Alabama and the United States of America.

Guardsmen, employees, and families got a rockin’ sneak peak of their set during a special performance at our Joint Force Headquarters. When military professional excellence meets civilian artistry, the Alabama National Guard’s 151st brings the best of both worlds!

As we begin the last week of April, which Governor Kay Ivey proclaimed as the Month of the Military Child during a ceremony at the Alabama Capitol on April 16, 2026, we would like to honor the courage of children in military families.

Members of the Alabama National Guard Child & Youth Services joined the Governor alongside ALNG Director of Resilience Col. Todd Wheeler and State Military Department Deputy Director of External Affairs and Strategic Communication Casey Rogers to recognize the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of military children across the state.

Leaders of the Alabama National Guard, 22nd Recruiting and Retention Battalion, and Alabama Air National Guard Recruiting Squadron recently awarded the first checks of the newly revitalized Joint Enlistment Enhancement Program (JEEP) during a ceremony in Opelika, Alabama. This program rewards Alabama Soldiers and Airmen for bringing new recruits into service, which is essential in maintaining a force that is ALways Ready, ALways There!

Big news for the Alabama National Guard!

Three key legislative priorities supporting Soldiers, Airmen, and mission readiness across Alabama passed this session. These measures strengthen legal authorities, improve recognition programs, and expand education benefits for members of the Alabama National Guard.

House Bill 233 strengthens the Alabama National Guard Education Assistance Program by authorizing tuition assistance for workforce development programs, allowing assistance payments earlier in the academic term, and establishing joint administration between the State Military Department and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. These updates improve access to education and support recruitment and retention across the force.

House Bill 323 updates Alabama National Guard awards, medals, and ribbons by revising eligibility requirements and establishing new awards for certain accomplishments and service. The legislation also clarifies presentation authority between the Governor and the Adjutant General, ensuring consistent and meaningful recognition for Soldiers and Airmen.

House Bill 362 clarifies roles and responsibilities within the Alabama National Guard legal framework and strengthens authorities for the State Military Department’s Legal Services.

These legislative priorities represent a continued investment in the people, readiness, and future of the Alabama National Guard.
