The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Helping Montgomery Families Initiative (HMFI) is proud to work alongside an incredible network of community partners dedicated to supporting local youth and strengthening families. Together, these organizations are creating opportunities that help children stay on a positive path, succeed in school, and build brighter futures.

District Attorney Azzie Oliver, Chief Deputy DA Michele Davidson, and HMFI Director Eris Beasley recently hosted an appreciation luncheon to celebrate the individuals who make this work possible. The gathering also provided an opportunity to collaborate on priorities and innovative strategies for the upcoming school year and beyond.

HMFI connects children and families affected by trauma, poverty, addiction, and violence with vital prevention and intervention services through a coordinated community approach. Our partners remain at the heart of this mission, and we are grateful for their continued dedication to helping restore hope, stability, and success in the lives of those we serve.

Experts believe elder abuse is greatly underreported, partly because many older adults lack the social support networks that can help them recognize, report, or escape abusive situations. While physical abuse is often the most visible form, elder abuse also includes financial exploitation through telephone scams, fraudulent debt collection schemes, fake charities, and medical scams that target vulnerable seniors.

Addressing elder abuse is a matter of justice, dignity, and respect for all members of our community. By educating ourselves and the older adults in our lives, we can help protect them from losing their homes, life savings, independence, and, in some cases, their lives. 💜💜

NEWS FROM THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE: Marcus Johnson Sentenced Today to Life In Prison for the 2019 Fatal Stabbing of Paris Clarke; Two Violent Offenders Also Receive Sentences Following Successful Homicide Prosecutions

District Attorney Azzie Oliver said three recent sentencings reflect the tireless work of prosecutors, investigators, victim service officers, and support staff, who remain committed to seeking justice for victims and holding violent offenders accountable.

“The three cases highlighted here involved senseless acts of violence that resulted in the tragic and unnecessary loss of lives. While two offenders will spend the rest of their lives in prison and another has been sentenced to more than three decades behind bars, no sentence can truly heal the pain experienced by the families who have lost loved ones or the victims who continue to live with permanent injuries and lasting trauma.

Violent crime leaves scars that extend far beyond a courtroom, impacting families, neighborhoods, and our entire community. These senseless acts of violence must stop. My office remains steadfast in its commitment to keeping our city safe, aggressively prosecuting violent offenders, and seeking lengthy sentences that protect our community from those who commit acts of violence.”

ICYMI: Public safety is about more than responding to crime after it happens. It is also about prevention, investment, and creating positive pathways for young people before they ever encounter the justice system.

On this edition of “Mondays with the District Attorney,” DA Azzie Oliver discussed why initiatives such as our AB Honor Roll Recognition Program help reinforce the importance of achievement, discipline, and consistency at an early age.

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and many families will be traveling near and far to celebrate with loved ones. As you enjoy the holiday weekend, we encourage everyone to make safety a priority on the road.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, hundreds of people lose their lives in traffic crashes during Memorial Day holiday periods each year, with impaired driving remaining one of the leading causes of fatalities.

A little planning can save lives and help ensure everyone arrives home safely.
From all of us at the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, we wish you a safe, happy, and meaningful Memorial Day Weekend!
