Planning to support rural hospitals 2027? Now is the time to get ready.

Beginning in January, the Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program will enter its second year, allowing eligible Alabama taxpayers to contribute to a participating rural hospital and receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit.

Before the program opens, you can:

✅ Learn how the Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program works
✅ Review the eligible rural hospitals
✅ Consider which hospital you would like to support
✅ Talk with your tax adviser about participating

In its first year, the program reached its entire $20 million statewide cap in just one month. For 2027, the cap has increased to $25 million, but credits are still expected to go quickly.

A stronger, more modern ICU is coming to Troy Regional Medical Center, thanks to neighbors and local businesses investing directly in their hospital.

Through the Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program, Alabama taxpayers contributed to Troy Regional and received a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit in return.

Those contributions will help Troy Regional:

✅ Modernize ICU patient rooms
✅ Upgrade technology
✅ Create more ergonomic workspaces for nurses
✅ Improve staff visibility throughout the unit
✅ Prepare for telemedicine services that can help keep more patients close to home

Community support knows no age. 💙🏥

When 9-year-old Patrick heard his parents discussing a contribution to Mizell Memorial Hospital through the Alabama Rural Hospital Investment Program (RHIP), he decided he wanted to help, too.

Although Patrick is not yet an Alabama taxpayer and cannot participate in the RHIP tax-credit program, he donated money from his allowance to support the hospital.

“I want to help the hospital be there for people who need it,” Patrick said. “Everyone needs to know how much we need our hospital.”

Patrick’s generosity is a powerful reminder that supporting rural healthcare is an investment in every neighbor, family and future generation.

Through RHIP, eligible Alabama taxpayers can make qualified contributions to participating rural hospitals and receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit, subject to applicable limits and credit availability.
