As a ministry of Jesus Christ, Agape’s mission is that vulnerable and orphaned children find permanency in safe, nurturing families. This mission has led Christians using Agape to serve more than 2,000 children through foster care, and more than 250 children through the permanency of a Christian adoptive family. Hundreds of pregnant women in crisis have been counseled by Agape staff to choose life for their unborn child, and to make the best choice for their future and the baby’s future. Agape is a non-profit 501(c)3 agency whose staff and board are all faithful Christians. There are staff members located in Montgomery, Birmingham and Enterprise. The majority of Agape’s funding is provided through donations from churches and individual Christians, with no client ever being turned away because of their inability to pay for a service. Agape maintains positive and supportive relationships with the Alabama Department of Human Resources and other professional agencies serving children and families. The only real limit on Agape’s ability to serve is the number of churches and individual Christians who step forward to involve themselves in the lives of the hurting children, the vulnerable young women who are pregnant, and the burdened families.

This past Sunday, Steve had the chance to speak at Hunter Hills Church about what it really looks like to come alongside someone.

One thing he challenged us to think about was how we offer help. Instead of saying, “Let me know if you need anything,” we can offer to do something specific.

Can I bring you a meal? Can I help with your yard? Can I take one thing off your plate this week? A specific offer can make it much easier for someone to accept the help they need.

That’s a lot of what Agape does, too. We come alongside children, expectant moms, and foster families in practical ways, especially when life feels hard or overwhelming.

We’re so thankful for churches like Hunter Hills that support Agape and the families we serve!

A hospital can provide incredible care, but children still need a family to come home to. We’re looking for people willing to open their homes to children with medical or specialized needs.

Agape helps prepare and support foster families every step of the way. You’ll receive training, have people to call when you have questions, and have an Agape team walking alongside you as you advocate for the child in your home.

In this role, you’ll help tell Agape’s story, support events and fundraising efforts, coordinate volunteer opportunities, and build connections with local churches and Christians in our community. Wow! Thanks to the Montgomery Sunrise Rotary Club, more than 20 expectant moms will have a backpack ready for them when they go to the hospital.

They donated the contents for each backpack to help moms feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.

The backpacks also have a practical use after they leave the hospital. Moms making parenting plans receive a diaper bag backpack they can continue using after the baby arrives. Moms making adoption plans receive a traditional backpack filled with items just for them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night at the Raising Hope Benefit Dinner in Birmingham!

We are currently at 95% of our goal of $40K! We’re especially grateful to the families and team members who shared their stories and gave everyone a closer look at the impact our supporters have in the lives of vulnerable children and expectant moms in crisis.
