The Montgomery City/County Emergency Management Agency and Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School will conduct an active shooter response exercise on Thursday, July 30, at Montgomery Catholic's middle and high school campus at 5350 Vaughn Rd. The exercise will involve responders from the Montgomery Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery Fire Rescue, City of Montgomery Emergency Communications, and staff from Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School to practice coordinated emergency response capabilities.

The exercise aims to evaluate and improve the preparedness of first responders and school personnel in the event of an active shooter scenario. Such training and exercises are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.

During the exercise, residents may observe an increased presence of first responders in the area. This heightened activity will solely be part of the planned drill and is not indicative of an actual emergency.

Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, established in 1873, is the longest continuously operating non-public K-12 school in Alabama. The institution is committed to providing a safe learning environment and regularly collaborates with local authorities to enhance emergency preparedness.

We are excited to introduce our new Emergency Communications Training Manager, Kroshona Bibb. Kroshona is a familiar face to the Department of Emergency Communications. Ms. Bibb brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served with our department from 2019 to 2024 as a fire dispatcher, before being promoted to ECC Supervisor. When Ms. Bibb is not leading a training class, she will be assisting the center with supervisor duties and fire dispatch. Her versatility and dedication will be a great asset to our team. Let’s give Kroshona a big welcome and congratulations on her new role as Training Manager!! 🎉🚒🚑📞🚨🚔

MYTH: You should hang up if you accidentally call 911.

FACT: Stay on the line and let the telecommunicator know it was accidental.

Accidental 911 calls happen, but hanging up can create confusion and may result in a callback or dispatch to confirm your safety.

If you call 911 by mistake, the best thing you can do is stay on the line and clearly communicate that there is no emergency.

Today we celebrated the retirement of Emergency Communications Supervisor, Montsho Rose Boleware. Montsho began her career with the City of Montgomery in August 1995, just out of high school. By 1998, Montsho had transitioned to the role of Call Taker, and in 2000, she became a Dispatcher—a position where she discovered her true passion. Montsho went on to become a supervisor, in which she was voted supervisor of the year by her coworkers.

After nearly 31 years of dedicated service to the City of Montgomery's citizens, police department, and fire department, Montsho Rose Boleware officially retires on July 1, 2026. Her career is a testament to faith, perseverance, compassion, professionalism, and a true love for 911 communications. She leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and heart, stepping into retirement with gratitude and peace for a career well done.

Congratulations, Montsho! Enjoy your well deserved retirement. 🎉🎉
