I could fill a book with all of the wonderful things Mr. Sabe Williams, Head Custodian, has done over his many years of service to our beloved school. Many of you have heard me refer to him as “the Soul of FMMS.”

Happy for him, and sad for us, Mr. Williams is retiring. We want to celebrate him and honor his years of dedication to our students and faculty with a monetary gift.

This is Principal Giles with a few highlights as we get ready to take on the 85th Day of the 2021-22 SY. Today is Wear-it-Wednesday, Jan 5, 2022!

INSTRUCTIONAL LANE

• Parents, please visit the private parent pages on Facebook for practice activities in Mathematics.

• Panthers, please be reminded to bring a bottle of water or a water bottle to school daily.

• Panthers, please be sure to bring your fully-charged Chromebook to school daily.

• Panthers, please be reminded that cell phone usage is prohibited during school hours and that phones MUST NOT BE VISIBLE.

• FMMS Panthers will take the Performance Matters Quarterly Assessment beginning January 18th. Results from the Mathematics measure will be used to determine intervention requirements.

ATHLETICS CORNER

• Congratulations to our Girls and 8th Grade Boys Basketball Teams on their wins against McKee Middle last night! GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!

• FMMS Basketball will play Southlawn on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

• HOSA, Robotics, and Coding Clubs will meet this afternoon.

• Our Robotics Team will have its first competition this Saturday, Jan.8th @8 A.M. at Pike Road Elementary School. We are super excited! Good Luck to our Panther engineers!

• Parents, please reiterate the importance of wearing masks and social distancing with your Panther. At Floyd, we are committed to exercising mitigation measures to eliminate the rapid spread of coronavirus.

• Parents, please help us identify your Panther for afternoon pick by placing your Panther’s name in the windshield. Parents we are also asking that you be courteous to our staff on traffic duty.

• Parents, please make every effort to have your Panther picked up from school on time. Please be mindful that teachers are participants in some of our after school activities, clubs, and committees.

• Parents, please be reminded that Panthers should be ready to begin instruction at 8:30 A.M. We are experiencing too many late check-ins.

Parents, please help us to keep your Panther safe, please keep your Panther at home if he or she is sick.

Greetings Panther Nation,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a restful winter break and that each of you are practicing safety measures to stay healthy amidst the uptick in the COVID-19 spread.

At this time, ADPH has not made any changes to the COVID-19 protocols for school districts, thus Panthers are expected to report for in-person instruction at Floyd Middle Magnet beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

In light of this, we are still operating under the October 2021 guidance. UAB testing for coronavirus will be scheduled for staff and students at FMMS. Please note that this service is only applicable for students/staff that are in attendance on the specified day of testing and have provided consent. The testing date for FMMS is TBD.

Finally, please make note of the following reminders pertaining to COVID-19 protocols:

🛎 Visitation to the school will be by appointment only.

🛎Temperature checks for visitors are required.

🛎 Contact tracing will be conducted during regular school hours only.

🛎 Students and staff must wear masks correctly at all times.

🛎 Students and staff should exercise use of hand-washing and the hand sanitizer stations as often as possible.

🛎 Students and staff should not report to school/work if sick/experiencing symptoms of coronavirus or flu.

As more information becomes available, I will continue to keep the Panther community informed.

COOLER WEATHER BRINGS THE CLASSROOM OUTSIDE!

FMMS sixth graders have been working hard on preparing their Narrative Essays for their Honors/Advanced English Language Arts class.

English Teacher, Ms. Jameelah Louis, is focusing on developing mature writers. These skills not only help students develop a passion for writing, but also improve student collaboration in a positive way.

These are a few pics of what took place this week as students enjoyed the cooler temperatures and got a chance to work in a different learning space.
