Alabama’s unemployment rate held steady at 2.7% in March, remaining below the national average and below March 2025’s rate of 3.0%.

The state also reached a new record high average weekly wage of $1,178.60 (an increase of $71.64 weekly), reflecting continued growth in Alabama’s workforce and economy. Alabama also ranks among the top five states in the nation for wage and salary employment growth year over year.

Over the year:
• 11,027 more Alabamians are employed
• Wage and salary employment increased by 11,200
• Labor force participation continued to grow

Data is year-over-year based on March 2026 information processed by the U.S. Department of Labor and Labor Market Information (LMI).
