💧 Water is one of our most valuable natural resources, and understanding it starts at a young age.

Fourth-grade students from Eufaula City Schools recently participated in a Groundwater Festival hosted by the Barbour County Extension Office at Wallace Community College - Eufaula. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students learned about groundwater, water conservation, and how little of Earth's water supply is available for drinking.

From relay races to resource demonstrations, students gained a greater appreciation for the role water plays in our daily lives and why protecting it matters.

Prescribed fire class is in session for these students! 👨‍🏫

🔥The Auburn University Prescribed Burn class took a visit to AFC's Macon County office to learn from the pros! The class primarily focuses on the safety of prescribed fire and learning how to burn correctly.
☁️Due to this year's dry conditions, our guys concentrated on the importance of "mop-up" after a fire. Mop-up is when crews visit a recently burned area and ensure all the hot spots are put out and any potential threats are eliminated.
💚Shoutout to Ashley Haden, Garrett Dyar, Mark Richardson, Matt McCollough, and Gary Braxton for a job well done!

Our leaders in our nation's capital advocating for you! 🏛️

State Forester Rick Oates and Assistant State Forester Will Brantley recently joined other southern forestry leaders in Washington DC to ensure southern forestry priorities are clearly represented in the current federal policy environment. It is important that Congress understands the South’s unique landscape, ownership patterns, forest products economy, and partnership-based approach to wildfire and landowner assistance.💚

🌳Our newest class of foresters and forest rangers just wrapped up with Spring Academy!
🎙Hear what Forester Cooper Horn had to say about his experience:
“It was a great opportunity to learn about the many roles that the AFC plays from protecting Alabama’s landscapes and water quality through the implementation of best management practices to assessing the state’s standing timber supply using Forest Inventory Analysis.”💚

Some things never lose their value. 🌲

This old AFC bulldozer has seen generations of hard work, long days, and land carefully managed through the years. While technology continues to evolve, there will always be a place for the equipment — and the people — that helped shape forestry into what it is today.

Around here, history still has a seat in the cab. 🚜
