Alabama Entertainment Office The Alabama Film Office was originally established on January 15, 1978.

Our purpose is to promote the state of Alabama to the motion picture, television and video industry for on-location productions; and to coordinate requests for location assistance within the state. This includes assisting film producers from pre-production through principal photography with all location contacts such as property owners, local government officials, chambers of commerce, etc.

The clock is ticking for filmmakers with a story that deserves to be seen.
For 35 years, the Roy W. Dean Grants offered by From the Heart Productions have helped independent filmmakers bring meaningful films to life—projects that explore real issues, elevate unheard voices, and contribute something important to society.
Now the Spring 2026 Roy W. Dean Grant is entering its final weeks for submission.

LOOKING FOR ACTORS IN THE CALERA / MONTEVALLO / BIRMINGHAM AL AREA!

COMMERCIAL SHOOT FOR ALDOT WORK ZONE SAFETY AWARENESS COMMERCIAL

Looking for 6-8 experienced actors: 1 female (any ethnicity, age 25 - 55yrs) and 5 -7 males (any ethnicity, aged 25 - 55yrs). These roles will be speaking roles in an ALDOT commercial to be shot on Tues. Mar. 17th in Calera, AL. You will need to wear appropriate pants, shirts and boots, and we will be providing you a vest and hard hat on set.

SHOOT LOCATION : Calera, AL. Exact location is still being decided but we will be shuttling you to a work zone

SHOOT DATE: Tuesday March 17th 2026

SHOOT TIME: TBD (once exact shoot location is nailed down, I will have the shoot times available

Pay rate: $150/hr (expect to be on set at least 2 hours )

We’re pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 2026 Roy W. Dean Short Film Grant, proudly sponsored by From the Heart Productions, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers whose work makes a meaningful contribution to society.

Now in its 35th year, the Roy W. Dean Grants have provided critical funding, mentorship, and production services to hundreds of filmmakers, helping them complete and share powerful, socially relevant films with audiences worldwide.

🎬 Grant Eligibility

The Roy W. Dean Short Film Grant is open to:

• Narrative short films

• Live action or animated projects

🏆 What the 2026 Short Film Grant Includes
Selected filmmakers receive a robust package of funding and professional production support, including:

💵 $3,000 cash grant from From the Heart Productions

🎥 $15,000 Panavision grant for 35mm or 16mm camera and equipment (live action only)

🎼 $3,000 in music and audio services from acclaimed composer David Raiklen

The Roy W. Dean Grant for Spring 2026 is now open for submissions.

Now in its 35th year, this respected grant supports independent filmmakers creating unique films that make a meaningful contribution to society. Sponsored by From the Heart Productions, a top-rated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Roy W. Dean Grant helps filmmakers not only fund their projects, but also complete and successfully bring them to the public.

We welcome projects in documentary, narrative feature, short film, and web series formats told with passion that are both creative and socially impactful. Projects should be budgeted at $500,000 or less, and students are encouraged to apply.
