Chairwoman Jaffer Farewell Message
Dear Montgomery Democrats,
As my term as Chair of the Montgomery Democratic Organization draws to a close, I want to thank the many wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of working with to promote good government and principled leadership in Montgomery Township and beyond. Along with most of my colleagues on the outgoing Executive Board, I have decided to focus on other pro-democracy initiatives.
I am grateful to Recording Secretary Akshat Yalamarty for his many years of service and congratulate him on his reelection. I had the honor of working alongside superstars Vice-Chair Marilyn Blazovsky, Treasurer Catherine Lugg, and Corresponding Secretary Karen Dentler for most of this year and several years prior — thank you all! I also thank my dynamic and dedicated colleagues Vice-Chair Shahab Khan, Treasurer Devra Keenan, and Corresponding Secretary Sarah Roberts for stepping up to serve the Montgomery Democratic Organization and its members these past few months.
As we close one chapter in the organization’s history and begin another, I’d like to share a quote I offered during this January’s MDO meeting, from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His words remind us why political engagement remains vital — to ensure that our leaders are guided by justice and love:
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
I look forward to continuing the work of building just and loving communities — together with many of you.
With best wishes,
Sadaf Jaffer
