I traveled to Baltimore Maryland Monday, to attend the 102nd birthday of Captain Jack Slaughter, USN Retired. The party was Tuesday evening with about 200 guests attending. Then the family and several crewmembers who came had a private dinner at the Retirement facility where Captn' Jack now lives. After the dinner I presented Captn' Jack with the last Ensign US Flag that flew on the stern staff of the ship in 1970. It was folded and in a flag shadow box. also I presented him with a personal letter to him from the Navy Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral John Richardson. This was a highlight in my life to share with the Slaughter family. Captain Jack tells me he is saving his strength so he can attend the reunion in Buffalo New York in September.
At one count he received over 100 birthday cards. The photo is of Captn' Jack blowing out the candles, his daughter is beside him.

The surprise for Captain John 'Jack' Slaughter, USN Retired, on his 101st birthday by the USS Northampton Reunion Assn. Membership on Jan. 21, 2015 at the US Navy Memorial Museum in Washington DC the lower plaque of the 1st photo is what we presented to him, along with a wall plaque with similar wording. 2nd photo is Captn' 'Jack' as he likes to be called. 3rd photo is the CLC/CC-1 ship model we presented to the Museum several years ago. A great day for a truly outstanding Commanding Officer. He was the first 'Skipper' to the President when the USS Northampton became the first Presidential Sea Command Ship 1961-1970. Captain Jack was Commanding Officer 1961-1962.
