When the lights go out, will you be ready? Readiness starts at home with these power outage essentials:

Battery-powered radio
Flashlights and extra batteries
Portable charger for phones
Non-perishable foods

After an emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other supplies to last for several days. A disaster supplies kit is a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.

A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHWESTERN PIKE AND
SOUTHEASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTIES THROUGH 230 PM CDT...

At 206 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Dublin, or near Meadville, moving north at 10 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Meadville, Pine Level, Kent, Ansley, Grady, Dublin, Currys, and
Orion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Financial Preparedness Tips
Americans at all income levels have experienced the challenges of rebuilding their lives after a disaster or other emergency. In these stressful times, having access to personal financial, insurance, medical and other records is crucial for starting the recovery process quickly and efficiently.

Gather financial and critical personal, household and medical information.

Consider saving money in an emergency savings account that could be used in any crisis. Keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place. It is important to have small bills on hand because ATMs and credit cards may not work during a disaster when you need to purchase necessary supplies, fuel or food.

Obtain property (homeowners or renters), health and life insurance if you do not have them. Not all insurance policies are the same.

Review your policy to make sure the amount and types of coverage you have meets the requirements for all possible hazards.

Homeowners insurance does not typically cover flooding, so you may need to purchase flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program.

STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN ELMORE...WEST CENTRAL
MACON AND NORTHERN MONTGOMERY COUNTIES THROUGH 245 PM CDT...

At 201 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Prattville to Montgomery to near
Victoryland. Movement was south at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Montgomery, Prattville, Millbrook, Wetumpka, Tallassee, Coosada,
Shorter, Montgomery Zoo, Boylston, Auburn University In Montgomery,
Bob Woodruff Lake, Woodcrest, Emerald Mountain, Maxwell Air Force
Base, Lagoon Park, Waugh, Hunter, Alabama State University, Dannelly
Field, and Eastdale Mall.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 65 between mile markers 166 and 181.
Interstate 85 between mile markers 1 and 25.
US Highway 82 between mile markers 144 and 162, and near mile marker
179.
US Highway 80 between mile markers 124 and 159.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
