Donald "Matt" James Matheson of Montgomery Alabama passed away from this life to his eternal home with the Lord on Friday March 4,2022. He was born in Detroit Michigan to Donald and Claudia Matheson. He was raised by his father and step mother, Shirley Matheson, of Columbus Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother; his mother in law, Karen S Hudgens, of Montgomery Alabama, and his father in law, David E Burmeister or Greenwood Indiana. Mr. Matheson is survived by his wife Lori Matheson of Montgomery, his children, Shawn (Theresa) Matheson of Monroeville, PA, Tiffany Matheson of Nashville TN, Tina (Abe) Church of Dawsonville, GA, Jessica Matheson of Bowling Green, KY, Cody Smiddy of Montgomery, Kayla Smiddy of San Antonio, TX, Kiera Moore of Plymouth, MA and Kai (Kelly) Trujillo of Montgomery AL. Mr Matheson is also survived by his grandchildren Hayleigh Matheson, Michael Matheson, Victoria Rose Matheson, Gabriel Jack Matheson and Rose Porter. He leaves behind brothers, William "Billy" Brock of Knoxville, TN, Tim (Sonya) Matheson) of San Diego, CA, Shawn Brock, and sisters Cathy (John) Sola of Logansville, GA, Shannon Brock, Glenda Comer of Columbus, GA, and Sandy Whippler of San Antonio, TX.
Matt retired from the US Air Force Reserves and Federal Civil Service where he was the 908 Mission and Support group training manager. He was responsible for training all Airmen that went through 908. He built rapport and was well respected by all who encountered him.

Matt was a die hard Alabama fan. If Alabama football was playing on TV that's where you would find Matt. The first time Matt and Lori watched a football game together Matt stood in front of the TV and yelled the entire game. Lori told him she wasn't watching anymore football games with him. They continued to watch Alabama football games together.

Matt also liked riding motorcycles. He had a goal of riding The Ultimate coast to coast Challenge. This was a ride from the Florida Keys to Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay) Alaska or reverse. This challenge was to be completed in less than 30 days. He enjoyed telling friends and family he would do this. Just days before he passed he described this ride to his friend and sister in law. He was just waiting for his leg.

Matt was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Lori who he lovingly referred to as "wifey" and family. He enjoyed watching movies, traveling, going for rides just to get out of the house. He enjoyed spending time with friends. Matt was a Faithful man and spent time with the Lord every day. Every night he led prayer with Lori while holding hands before going to sleep.

A Celebration of Life memorial service for Matt will be held at 2:00pm Sunday March 13, 2022 at Leak Memory Chapel 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery Alabama with Chief Lynn Whited officiating. Family and friends may gather from 1:00pm until service begins.
