420 volunteers.
5,000+ homeless neighbors served.

That’s what compassion in action looked like in 2025.

People showed up early.
They stayed late.
They served with dignity, respect, and love, not because it was easy, but because people matter.

This is the work of Matthew’s Light, and we are deeply grateful for every volunteer, every donor, and every person who said yes to loving their neighbors well.

And we’re not done. Join us as we step into 2026, ready to love our neighbor as ourself.

Can AI Help Address the Homeless Crisis?
A Simple, Honest Conversation

When people hear the words artificial intelligence, it often brings fear.
Job loss. Cold technology. Machines replacing people.

That fear is understandable, especially when AI is explained in complex ways or used without care.

But here’s something we believe deeply:

AI doesn’t replace compassion.
It can strengthen it.

At its core, AI is simply a tool, like a calculator, a GPS, or a spreadsheet. It does not decide who matters. People do.

So how could AI help address homelessness in a responsible, human-centered way?

First, what AI is NOT

AI is not a robot running a shelter.
AI is not deciding who deserves help.
AI is not replacing social workers, counselors, or relationships.

At Cana Village, AI would never replace people.
It would support them.

What AI can help with, in simple terms

1. Seeing patterns humans miss
Homelessness is complex. People cycle through shelters, hospitals, jails, and outreach programs.

AI can help identify patterns, like:
• Which supports actually lead to long-term stability
• Where people fall through the cracks
• What services are missing or delayed

This helps organizations stop guessing and start fixing real problems.

2. Helping people access support more easily
Paperwork, appointments, and systems can be overwhelming.

AI can assist with:
• Appointment reminders
• Simple step-by-step guidance
• Language translation
• Answering basic questions at any time

This doesn’t replace caseworkers.
It helps people stay connected between human interactions.

3. Supporting job training and education
AI can help people learn at their own pace by:
• Assisting with job skills training
• Practicing interviews
• Helping build resumes
• Teaching budgeting and basic computer skills

This empowers people instead of overwhelming them.

4. Making communities more affordable and sustainable
AI can help manage:
• Energy use
• Food systems
• Maintenance planning
• Transportation logistics

When systems run better, costs go down.
Lower costs mean long-term stability.

Why this matters

Homelessness cannot be solved with emotion alone, and it cannot be solved with technology alone.

It requires:
• Housing
• Community
• Mental health support
• Work opportunities
• Accountability
• Dignity
• Smarter systems

AI can help organizations make better decisions, not colder ones.

An open invitation

Cana Village is being designed as an Innovation Sandbox, a real-world place where compassion and practical solutions meet.

We are not claiming to have all the answers.
We are asking better questions.

If you are an AI developer, technologist, systems thinker, or innovator who cares about people, we want to talk with you.

Not to build something for people,
but with them.

This is an invitation to:
• Listen before designing
• Collaborate across disciplines
• Test ideas responsibly
• Keep humans at the center

No sales pitches.
No hype.
Just honest conversation about how technology can serve dignity, not replace it.

Compassion without systems burns out.
Systems without compassion fail.

The future requires both.

That is the heart behind Cana Village.

For decades, our primary response to homelessness and poverty has been to build housing projects and apartment-style complexes.

Housing matters.
But housing alone has not broken the cycle.

Traditional housing projects were designed to solve one problem, a lack of shelter. They were not designed to restore lives, build community, or address the root causes that keep people trapped in poverty.

Over time, we’ve seen the same patterns repeat:
• Isolation instead of belonging
• Dependency instead of growth
• Little accountability or encouragement
• No clear path to employment, financial stability, or independence

Simply moving someone from the street into an apartment does not heal trauma, teach life skills, rebuild confidence, or create a support system.

Cana Village will be different, by design.

Cana Village will offer:
• Permanent housing, not temporary placement
• Small, walkable neighborhoods instead of large complexes
• Built-in community and accountability
• Job training, financial education, and life skills
• Support that walks with people as they rebuild, not just house them

This is not about giving people a place to stay.
It’s about giving people a real chance to change the trajectory of their lives.

Housing is the foundation.
Community is what breaks cycles.

If we equip young adults well today, they will shape communities tomorrow.

At Cana Village, one of our major areas of focus will be young adults ages 18–25, a rapidly growing segment of those experiencing homelessness in America. This age group faces unique challenges, but they also represent one of the highest-potential demographics for long-term transformation.

Here is why our Innovation Sandbox model will be especially powerful for them:

1. Young adults are still building their foundation.

Between ages 18 and 25, people are forming the habits, skills, and identity that shape their entire future. When this age group has stable housing, mentorship, and meaningful opportunity, the trajectory of their life can change quickly and significantly.

2. Most barriers they face are structural, not personal.

Many young adults experiencing homelessness come from foster care, unstable homes, or environments that lacked support. They are not lacking potential, they are lacking a system that invests in them. Cana Village will provide the structure they never had.

3. They thrive in learning environments.

The Cana Village Innovation Sandbox will be built around training, discovery, and growth. Young adults will be uniquely positioned to excel in:
• renewable energy and microgrid operations
• sustainable agriculture and aquaponics
• construction and trade apprenticeships
• hospitality, culinary training, and community businesses
• digital tools, AI literacy, and emerging technologies

This is the stage of life when new skills stick and new opportunities open.

4. They respond strongly to community and purpose.

Young adults often become some of the most engaged and committed members of a supportive community. When they are trusted, encouraged, and given responsibility, they tend to rise to it and exceed expectations. Cana Village will give them space to do exactly that.

5. They will become powerful leaders for the next generation.

When young adults overcome homelessness and gain stability, they often turn around and help others. They become peer mentors, community advocates, and steady voices for hope. Cana Village will give them the tools to carry their experience forward and create impact far beyond their own lives.

This is why Cana Village will invest in this demographic.

Cana Village will not only provide permanent housing, it will create an environment where young adults can:
• build confidence
• learn valuable skills
• develop healthy relationships
• cultivate leadership
• and launch into a life of stability and contribution

Cana Village will be a place where potential is nurtured, innovation is practiced, and futures are built.

🌱 At Cana Village, we’re building more than homes, we’re building futures.

One of our commitments is to walk alongside our neighbors as they rebuild stability, confidence, and long-term security. That’s why our future plans include partnering with financial specialists who will teach essential skills like budgeting, saving, managing credit, and even investing, practical tools that can change a family’s entire trajectory.

And because our goal is always empowerment, not dependency, Cana Village will also offer a First-Time Homebuyers Course. This class will help our residents understand mortgages, down payments, interest rates, credit requirements, and the steps needed to purchase a home of their own one day.

Cana Village is a place to heal, grow, learn, and dream again. Whether residents choose to stay long-term or eventually transition into homeownership, we want every person to become stronger, more confident, and equipped for a brighter future.

💜 Cana Village — where restoration becomes opportunity.

Innovation That Feeds Communities and Nations

At Cana Village, we are designing a community that will not only change the lives of the people we serve today, it serve as a future Innovation Sandbox for developing solutions to one of the most urgent global challenges, the nutrient decline in modern produce. Today’s food system delivers calories but often lacks essential micronutrients due to depleted soils, early harvesting and long distance transportation. This problem contributes to poor health outcomes worldwide and widens the gap in food security for vulnerable populations.

Cana Village will offer innovators a real world environment to test and refine agricultural technologies that can reverse nutrient decline and make high quality food accessible anywhere on earth, even in regions where traditional farming cannot sustain a population.

Our focus areas will include:

• Closed loop vertical and hydroponic systems designed to maximize nutrient density and reduce water consumption
• Regenerative living soil research focused on restoring trace minerals, microbial life and soil structure
• Low energy, high output controlled environment agriculture for nutrient rich yields with minimal resource use
• Modular micro farm units engineered for deployment in famine regions, disaster zones and food deserts
• Integrated solar, wind and energy storage to support off grid, resilient food production
• Environmental sensing, data analysis and nutrient monitoring to optimize crop quality in real time

Beyond research and testing, Cana Village will include training pathways that prepare residents for high demand, high wage ag tech careers. The future workforce will need technicians, operators, installers, data analysts and system maintainers who understand advanced agricultural technologies. Our goal is to prepare residents to step into those jobs with the skills, certifications and hands on experience needed to build long term stability.

Cana Village will not simply demonstrate new technologies. It will demonstrate how small communities can help solve global problems like nutrient deficient produce, food insecurity and hunger through scalable, sustainable innovation.

If you are developing solutions in agriculture, controlled environment systems, energy, water optimization or soil science, we would love to connect as we build these partnerships.
