The forecast continues to get worse for Montgomery County starting with thunderstorms in the morning and rapidly plunging temperatures the rain will shift to freezing rain by mid afternoon.
Please avoid traveling on the roads after mid day if at all possible. Conditions will not be safe on overpasses and bridges and even the surface streets could start to see icing.
Saturday night, temperatures will drop in the low 20’s with gusty winds the windchill factor will be in the low teens to single digits.
Sunday we will not get above freezing. So all of the ice will remain. Do not get out unless absolutely an emergency on Sunday.
Sunday night temperatures will plunge into the single digits and Monday morning will be the coldest day so far with windchills in the negative digits.
Monday we will not get above freezing. Stay home and off the roads. Schools are closed. The county and city offices are closed. Essential personnel will continue to work to ensure maximum public safety.
Take the rest of today to prepare your homes for the freezing temperatures. You wont have time tomorrow to do so. Protect the 4 P’s. Pipes, pets, plants and people.
Plan ahead and make sure you have enough food and water on hand for everyone in the household including pets. Don’t forget medications. Do not leave pets or animals outside in these temperatures without adequate shelter and warmth. It’s the law!
With these Arctic temperatures, comes the desire to keep your home warm. Be cautions with indoor space heaters. They pose a significant fire risk. Keep them away from other objects.
If you lose power, do not bring generators or BBQ pits inside for use. They produce carbon monoxide which can kill you and your family. Stay bundled up and keep the house closed to avoid letting air in or out. Keep the generators away from windows and doors. Carbon Monoxide can still enter the home.
I’m in touch with our electric providers and will provide updates as needed. I’m praying the power stays on and we just have a few cold days. But Montgomery County and all of our resources are activated and ready to respond.
Earlier today I issued a disaster declaration for Montgomery County that will ensure no red tape gets in the way of our response to the historic winter storm.
Please stay home, bundled up and warm. We will get through this just like we have with countless other disasters together.
God bless you and your family and may God bless Montgomery County.
