After more than 25 years of advancing s*x education in Alabama, the Alabama Campaign for Adolescent Sexual Health is closing its doors. The work of s*x education for Alabama’s youth remains necessary, especially as the Alabama Legislature just passed abstinence-only-until-marriage legislation. For grassroots organizations like ACASH, the current political and funding landscape has made continuing our work nearly impossible. And while our staff care deeply about this work, it cannot be done without cash-flow.

This decision was made with the utmost care for our communities. Our youth programming is continuing with Teen Health Mississippi and Montgomery Pride United. Our advocacy work continues with URGE Alabama and Yellowhammer Fund.

The legacy of ACASH will continue in the caring adults, youth leaders, and communities across Alabama that continue to provide comprehensive s*x education.

Trans youth deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated every day.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, a time to honor trans people everywhere.

Working with young people means creating spaces where they can show up fully and safely, without hiding who they are.

💬 Use the names and pronouns they choose

💬 Speak up when others try to erase them

💬 Build spaces that reflect care

Trans youth need to be protected, affirmed, and empowered.

Please share this with others who work with youth.

When it comes to s*xual health, calm conversations go a long way.

Youth-serving professionals play a BIG role in helping parents and teens talk about HIV and STI prevention without shame or fear.

The goal isn’t a “perfect talk” but rather creating space where questions feel safe and honest answers are welcome.

Trust builds confidence, and confidence builds protection. 🧡

Talking to a young person about HIV prevention doesn't have to be scary.

Keep it simple, ask more than you tell, and lead with care instead of fear.

Testing is just part of taking care of yourself, and the sooner they hear that from someone they trust, the better.

The Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies, in partnership with The Policy & Research Group and the Alabama Campaign for Adolescent Sexual Health are currently recruiting young people to join the Film Learning Experience (FLEx) Program!

This study explores how health-based films can impact youth’s mental and physical health. Participants can earn up to $270 while contributing to a project that aims to improve their well-being.

Reminder! SB209 would restrict what students can learn about s*xual health and relationships in public schools by forcing abstinence-only instruction and cutting off access to accurate information about contraception and reproductive care.

➡️ Contact your state legislators now and urge them to vote NO on SB209 here: https://f.mtr.cool/zlvhgohgik

A LOT of young people feel scared or alone when it comes to HIV testing.

Fortunately, there are 6 supportive things you can do as a youth-serving professional or parent to help them:

✅ Give clear, judgment-free information

✅ Connect them to affordable, confidential testing

✅ Address their concerns and fears

✅ Go with them to appointments if needed

✅ Teach them about consent and privacy

✅ Be there regardless of results

Start using these tips this week. Your support could be the reason a young person gets tested and takes control of their health.

You do NOT have to have all the answers to show up for young people. Feeling underprepared to talk about s*x, love, and relationships?

Start with what you know. Young people respond to honesty way more than perfection, so leading with "I'm still learning too" goes further than you'd think.

Use trusted resources. Organizations like ours exist to do the heavy lifting, so lean on the materials, guides, and support already out there for you.

Keep the door open. A young person who knows they can come to you with questions is already ahead of one who has nowhere to turn.

When young people are met with shame, they shut down. When they’re met with facts, they thrive.

One avoids asking questions. The other feels empowered to take charge of their health.

If you work with youth, this is your reminder:

💬 Language matters
🧠 Education matters
🤝 Support matters

Teach from a place of empathy, instead of fear. Their future depends on it.

📌 Save & share if you’re committed to stigma-free s*x ed.
