“Is this within my scope of practice?” is one of the most important questions a nurse can ask. Scope of practice is about more than holding an active license. It also includes your educational preparation, relevant experience, demonstrated competence, and the state and federal laws that guide nursing practice. Understanding your scope helps protect your patients, support safe care, and strengthen confidence in your practice.

The ABN and the ALBME have not approved research grade or non-FDA approved peptides on the formulary by CRNPs and CNMs in the state of Alabama. Accordingly, as an APRN, you are not authorized to prescribe or administer these drugs to your patients.
It should be noted, however, that the standard formulary does include prescription grade peptides, and that APRNs can and do routinely prescribe them in the course of their ordinary practice. Please do not construe this message as having any effect on your lawful practice as a CRNP or CNM. We only wish to draw your attention to the inappropriate practice of prescribing and administering substances that are not included on the standard formulary.

Please join us in celebrating one of our extraordinary nurses on receiving the DAISY Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, a prestigious honor created to recognize nurses who have devoted their life’s work to compassionate care, mentorship, patient advocacy, and advancing the nursing profession. The award recognizes nurses whose influence extends far beyond the bedside through role modeling, inspiring others, and leaving a lasting impact on patients, colleagues, and future generations of nurses.

A Montgomery native, Regina first graduated from Auburn University with a degree in business, but soon realized nursing was her calling. She returned to school and earned her RN degree from Troy University, beginning her nursing journey with Baptist Health on the neurology floor before finding her true home in critical care. From Neuroscience ICU to Surgical Trauma ICU, where she now serves as dayshift charge nurse, she has built a legacy rooted in clinical excellence, leadership, and compassion.

Affectionately known as “Ma” by the SICU staff, she is recognized throughout the hospital as a trusted resource, a patient advocate, and a mentor who believes deeply in "paying it forward." Through precepting, mentoring, committee service, and leading by example, she has helped shape and support countless nurses throughout their careers. Beyond nursing, she is a proud mother, devoted family member, and someone who treasures time at Lake Martin and traveling with loved ones. This recognition reflects a career defined not only by exceptional nursing care, but by the countless lives she has touched along the way. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor and thank you for the legacy you continue to build.

On this final day of Nurses Week, we proudly celebrate you, the nurses across Alabama who dedicate your lives to caring for others with compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment. Today, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, we honor the legacy of nursing and the incredible impact you continue to make every single day. Whether you are caring for patients at the bedside, serving families in your communities, leading healthcare teams, teaching future nurses, or supporting care behind the scenes, your work changes lives in ways both seen and unseen.
Nursing is more than a profession. It is a calling that requires resilience, empathy, sacrifice, and heart. Across hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, schools, physician offices, and communities throughout Alabama, nurses are often present during life’s most difficult, emotional, and meaningful moments. You bring comfort during uncertainty, strength during hardship, and hope during healing. The compassion you show, the sacrifices you make, and the dedication you give to your patients and communities do not go unnoticed.
Thank you for the countless lives you have touched and for the difference you continue to make across our state. Alabama is stronger because of you, and today we celebrate and honor all that you do.
