Our friends at Alabama Humanities Alliance recently shared some big news: Major grants are back. These grants offer up to $15,000 for eligible projects that bring Alabamians together to explore what makes us human – our history, literature, languages, art, religion, philosophy, and more.

AHA has scheduled two rounds of major grants for 2026-2027, with deadlines on October 1, 2026, and February 1, 2027. The portal will open to new applications on Monday, August 10.

Reminder: The Council on the Arts is currently accepting applications for project grants and Folk Arts Apprenticeships.

Project grants are the most frequently applied-for grant type, supporting a wide range of activities and events that provide artistic experiences. Administrative project grants fund salary support, capacity building, planning, and professional
development.

Folk Arts Apprenticeships preserve and pass on Alabama’s living cultural heritage through the instruction of traditional artistic skills and techniques by mentor artists to apprentices.

Submit your requests for funding by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Find resources linked in the comments.
