Kenneth L. Rutherford Elementary School fifth graders recently completed the CATCH My Breath va**ng prevention program, a nationally recognized, evidence-based curriculum designed to help students understand the risks of va**ng and ni****ne use while building decision-making and refusal skills.

Delivered over five weeks, the program engaged students in interactive lessons and discussions that promoted healthy choices and positive habits.

This opportunity was made possible through the support of Sullivan 180, which partners with schools and community organizations to improve the health and well-being of Sullivan County residents.

The George L. Cooke Elementary School held its Moving Up ceremony on Tuesday, June 9.

Families and friends gathered to watch the second graders perform a few songs, wave to the audience and to take their turn crossing the gym to receive their official ticket to third grade -- a moving up certificate.

Before closing out the ceremony, Principal Ginny Gallet, presented long-time PTO member Jamie Lippen with a bouquet of flowers as a token of appreciation for her years of service.

Afterwards, the new third graders and their families gathered in the courtyard for popsicles and picture taking.

We’re proud to share that the Monticello CSD Athletic Department has been named the OCIAA Community Service Challenge Award winner at this year’s Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Breakfast.

This recognition reflects the incredible dedication our student-athletes show both on and off the field.

Congratulations to Monticello High School seniors Reagan Zangla and George Gachechiladz, who were also named OCIAA Scholar Athletes for the 2025–26 school year—an honor that highlights their excellence in academics and athletics.

Our award-winning efforts include:

Giving Back: The girls modified volleyball team raised $300 through a “Pink Out” game and donated it to Garnet Catskills’ Oncology Department, supporting cancer awareness and care.

Inspiring the Next Generation: High school athletes connected with our youngest Panthers through a Dr. Seuss read-along at St. John Street preschool and led engaging activities at Emma C. Chase and Rutherford elementary schools during SAAC Day.

Building Community Through Sports: Our JV and varsity baseball teams hosted a Little League clinic, mentoring and encouraging young athletes in our community.

From service projects to mentorship, Monticello athletes continue to lead with heart, pride, and purpose.

The Monticello High School gymnasium was transformed into a vibrant art gallery for our annual District-wide Art Show last week.

Families explored artwork from students across every grade level while enjoying hands-on art projects and crafts. The exhibit featured a wide variety of mediums, showcasing the creativity, talent and hard work of our student artists throughout the district.

Thank you to our art teachers, students and families for making this celebration of the arts such a success. We are proud to showcase the incredible creativity that exists in every one of our schools!

Several Monticello High School students were recognized for their achievements during the Sullivan BOCES Career & Technical Education Academic Awards Banquet, held June 4 at the Career & Technical Education Center.

Congratulations to Monti's own Gabriela Almonte, who punched her ticket to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships with her performance in the 100m at tonight's state qualifier at Goshen High School! Gabby will compete against the state's best on June 13th and 14th at Webster Schroeder High School.

More than 200 students, family members and community partners came together for Monticello CSD's annual English as a New Language (ENL) ENL Family Night last week.

The event, organized by the district's ENL Department in collaboration with EPIC, welcomed 202 attendees for an evening of food, games, arts and crafts, community resources and family bingo. Families also enjoyed a special cultural parade, where students proudly showcased traditional clothing representing some of the many cultures that make up our school community.

The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate our ENL families, recognize their partnership throughout the school year and highlight the accomplishments of ENL students.

Thank you to our ENL staff, EPIC, district translators and community partners for helping make this event a success!
