The Monticello / Wayne County Rescue Squad is a private non-profit organization dedicated to serving the people of the city of Monticello & Wayne County, Kentucky. We are made up of volunteers from our service area and do not charge for our services. We are supported by donations, grants, fundraisers, and a yearly contribution from the Wayne County Fiscal Court and from the City of Monticello. Aga

in, none of our members are paid, and in fact, usually purchase most of their own equipment and pay related costs in acquiring their training.

We are so grateful to our communities and the support we receive everyday! Today we reached out for a unique need and without hesitation Wayne County Rescue Squad and Scott Gehring, Wayne County Judge Executive were able to assist us! Your willingness to serve and support others truly makes a difference in the lives of those we care for. We are incredibly thankful for your dedication to our community.

The rescue squad has been extremely busy over the last few days: storm runs and cleanup, traffic control, emergency transports, and most recently this afternoon. We were called to retrieve a victim out of the woods who had become too weak after exploring a cave to make it up on his own. The squad responded and used ropes to get to the subject and lift him up for transport out to Wayne County EMS. We are glad it turned out as well as it did and appreciate everyone who helped and was involved in the rescue.

It has been brought to our attention that there was a report of a SCAM of somone asking for donations for EMS in the couny.

They are definitely from the Rescue Squad. We are hosting our annual picture drive and one of the citizens was a little hard of hearing and there was a miscommunication. The person with the SUV wearing the "Rescue" shirt has the permission to sell pictures and take donations for the Wayne County Rescue Squad. Thank you all and sorry for the misunderstanding.

If you are going to get somewhere for heat, water, or food, do it during the daylight hours. Do not wait until after dark and then put emergency crews at risk. Temperatures will be dangerous tonight, do not be out for any reason not lfe or death. Plan now and get where you need to be.

Please stay inside and off the highways. Roads are extremely slick and we're not even sure we can make it everywhere in the county even with studded tires. Unless it's a matter of life or death don't be out after dark. Stay inside and stay safe. Don't risk it until daylight.

At approximately 8:45 last night, the squad received a page regarding a 100lb K9 that had gone over a several hundred foot bluff at the lake. While en route, we were advised that the owner of the K9 had also gone over. We utilized our Rappel team and gear to safely retrieve the owner and then the K9. We were back in service for the County by 03:00am.
