Our Explosives Detection K-9 Frodo and his handler recently conducted a sweep of our county sports areas as part of our ongoing commitment to school and community safety.

Fall sports are in full swing across Jasper County, and while our students, families, coaches, and fans are enjoying the games, our Deputies are working hard behind the scenes to help keep everyone safe.

Frodo is not just a working dog, he is a valued member of our Sheriff’s Office family. His training, focus, and dedication allow him to do an incredibly important job - protecting our children and families! He doesn’t know it’s Friday Night Football, he doesn’t know how big the crowd is, and he may not understand the score, but he does know that it’s his job to help protect our community!

We’re incredibly proud to have K-9 Frodo and his handler as part of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office team.

Welcome Back to School, Jasper County! As everyone gets back into their routines, please remember that traffic will be heavier than usual, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Give yourself a little extra travel time, slow down in school zones, and stay alert for children, school buses, crossing guards, and increased pedestrian traffic.

The Jasper County Charter System has also shared a great video explaining the new traffic pattern for Jasper County Primary School and Washington Park Elementary School. If you haven't already, please take a few minutes to watch it and familiarize yourself with the new traffic flow!
Let's all do our part to keep our students, parents, and school staff safe.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office has achieved the prestigious Georgia Sheriffs’ Association Accreditation, becoming one of only 24 sheriff’s offices in Georgia to earn this elite state certification.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was officially recognized this past week at the annual Georgia Sheriffs’ Association (GSA) Summer Conference for achieving formal Office of Sheriff Accreditation. Jasper County was one of only three counties honored statewide at the event for earning this distinction. Out of 159 Sheriff’s Offices in the state of Georgia, only 24 have achieved this milestone.

The Office of Sheriff Accreditation Program—developed by Sheriffs, for Sheriffs—is a comprehensive evaluation process designed to determine if defined best-practice standards are met. Earning this accreditation serves as public recognition that the highest levels of professionalism have been achieved in areas specific to the Office of Sheriff, according to the Georgia Constitution, state statutes, and case law.

"This certification represents a substantial achievement, both professionally for our office and personally for our staff," said Sheriff Pope. "This historic first-of-its-kind achievement for the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and talent of our entire staff."

Unlike general law enforcement programs, this accreditation incorporates mandated duties unique to the Office of Sheriff. A total of 390 standards were assessed as part of the process, evaluating core areas including:
· Administrative Operations: Directing agency management, policy formulation, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
· Law Enforcement Operations: Governing patrol tactics, investigation standards, response protocols, and emergency procedures.
· Jail Operations: Ensuring facility safety, inmate care, operational security, and constitutional standards.
· Court Security: Safeguarding judicial proceedings, protecting courthouse staff.
· S*x Offender Registry: Maintaining accurate tracking, mandatory compliance verification, and public notifications.

To earn accreditation, JCSO completed an exhaustive application process. The application process included a self-assessment tool submitted by the Office, supporting documentation, and an independent review by a team of sheriff’s office personnel designated as experts in the specific assessment areas. The accreditation process includes a comprehensive review of an agency’s policies, procedures, practices, operations, and proofs by assessors to ensure they meet or exceed standards.
The objective of the program is to enhance professionalism and reduce liability through rigorous standards. By establishing a solid operational foundation, this accreditation significantly improves overall performance within the agency and delivers an elevated standard of service to the citizens of Jasper County.

Zeth Blalock who is currently wanted out of multiple counties for Obstruction, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, DUI, and Aggravated Stalking. He originally fled from Jones County and walked into our county and was seen in the Old Agateville area. He was wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts. Search efforts were hindered late yesterday due to the severe thunder storms and this subject still remains at large.

There is no evidence that this subject is armed but extreme caution should be used if encountered!

Today we conducted a full-scale active shooter training exercise at the Jasper County High School.

The training brought together Jasper County 911, EMS, Fire Services, the School Board, our School Resource Officers, and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office to work through realistic emergency scenarios. Firearm simulation rounds were used throughout the exercise to create a more realistic training environment.

While we all hope and pray that a tragedy like this never happens in our community, we believe preparation is critical. Today was a great example of that. Should the unthinkable happen, know that we are prepared.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this training a success!
