WE, the members of the Monticello Police Department are dedicated to providing service through a partnership with our community, which builds TRUST, and enhances the quality of life. “We are not Warriors, We are GUARDIANS of our Community!!!”

Around 1829, Sir Robert Peel (considered the founder of modern-day, community-oriented policing) identified nine principles that he felt were critical to ef

fective law enforcement in a community. His seventh principle states:

“Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”

To us this means that we are all in this together to BALANCE the wheel. “Our best resources is each other!!!” We are always looking to improve and your feedback is greatly appreciated.

During National Police Week, the Monticello Police Department proudly honors the memory of Village Marshal Fred Jordan, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the Village of Monticello in 1930.

Marshal Jordan dedicated himself to protecting this community, and though many years have passed, his sacrifice and service are not forgotten. He now rests at Highland Cemetery in Monticello, a lasting reminder of the courage and commitment Marshal Jordan gave to his community.

Police Week is a time to remember all fallen officers and reflect on the risks law enforcement officers have faced throughout history while serving their communities.

Please join us in honoring Village Marshal Fred Jordan and all officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

You may have already seen them around town over the past several months—our newly marked police vehicles have been in service and hard at work!

These updated squad cars feature a fresh, modern design that enhances visibility and helps us better serve and protect our community. The high-visibility markings make it easier for residents to quickly identify our officers, while also improving safety on our roadways.

We’re proud of the updated look and the continued investment in equipment that supports our mission and keeps our community safe.

🚧 Street Sweeping Notice 🚧

The Village will be conducting street sweeping and cleaning.

To help our crews do a thorough job, we ask that no vehicles be parked on any village streets from Sunday night on April 26th through the morning hours of Monday April 27th.

Removing vehicles from the roadway allows for more effective cleaning and helps keep our streets looking their best.

We appreciate your cooperation and assistance in this effort!

If you have any questions, please contact the Police Department or Public Works.

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

On behalf of the Village of Monticello, we extend our sincere gratitude to our 911 dispatchers—the calm, steady voices behind every call for help. Day in and day out, they serve as the critical link between our community and emergency services, often under high-pressure and rapidly evolving situations.

Their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment do not go unnoticed. Whether coordinating emergency responses, providing lifesaving instructions, or offering reassurance in someone’s most difficult moment, our dispatchers are truly the first first responders.

Please join us in thanking our 911 dispatchers for their service, sacrifice, and the vital role they play in keeping our community safe.

We appreciate you—not just this week, but every single day.

As a friendly reminder to our community, Village ordinance requires that all dogs in public parks must be kept on a leash at all times.

Dogs are not permitted in the ball diamond areas, and the fenced portions of the diamonds are not to be used as off-leash spaces for pets to run.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping to keep our parks safe, clean, and enjoyable for all residents. Thank you for doing your part!

🚧 Highway 69 Construction Update 🚧

You may have already noticed orange barrels appearing and trees being removed along the corridor—these are early signs of the Highway 69 project getting underway.

Beginning on or about April 13, and continuing through November, parts of Highway 69 will be closed to traffic as construction progresses. Motorists should plan ahead, expect delays, and utilize posted detour routes.

It is anticipated that Highway 69 will be completely closed in Monticello from mid July through the end of August.

We encourage everyone to use caution when traveling near construction zones and to remain alert for workers and equipment.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available or when provided by WI DOT.
