Monticello, IL Township Highway Department By law, Illinois townships are charged with three basic functions;
1. General Assistance for needy
2.

The assessment of real property for the basis of local taxation
3. Maintenance of all roads & bridges outside federal, state and other local jurisdiction The Illinois Constitution of 1848 gave voters in each county the opportunity to adopt Township Government. Today 85 of 102 counties operate under the township form of government and the 1432 townships serve more than 8 million citizens.

Road update
Out of abundance of caution I have decided to go ahead and treat our main roads after beginning to have areas of light freezing .please just watch for scattered slick spots on untreated roads. Mother nature isnt playing fair today .Alan

This Morning, roads are pretty good condition we still have some moisture on pavement in some areas especially on the west boynd lane of the county rd heading east out of Monticello. However with the temperature of the pavement and the cold winds it seems to be evaporating. .I look for this to continue but don't rule out some scattered slick spots we will continue to watch the pavement temps and treat areas if needed. Travel advisory
This could be a tricky situation. It is all about timing and what actually happens .My main concern are the forcast winds and possible freezing on the roads.if we treat roads and get rain and wind our treatment is washed or blown away. If we treat roads and it becomes a blowing snow event roads. We Will get slushy and possible frozen ruts. But if we call everything correctly and either treat or don't treat at the right time and are able to chew gum and pat our head at the same time it will all be alright. See you in the Morning Alan

Road Update
We have entered the time of the year that there is a weight restriction of 8000lbs per axle on roads, please call the office @ 217 762 7524 before you haul. The reason for the posting period is to protect the roads during the freeze -thaw cycles . And with the forcast next week getting into the upper 30's to 40's we may start getting some soft spots.
