Sullivan County’s Veterans Service Agency will be closed Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5 in order for staff to complete required trainings.

Emails and calls will be answered during that time as staff are available, but appointments cannot be made for those days, and walk-ins will not be able to be accommodated.

The “Click It or Ticket” seatbelt enforcement initiative is in progress statewide from May 18th to May 31st. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is participating in this program by adding additional patrols dedicated to promoting seatbelt compliance. Drivers and passengers are encouraged to wear their seat belts and to make sure children are in the proper car or booster seats. Please drive cautiously and arrive safe.

There will be a Special Meeting of the Sullivan County Legislature on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 10:45 a.m. in the Hearing Room of the Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello, NY. The purpose of the meeting is to authorize county funding for Sullivan County Youth programs and any other business that may come before the Legislature.

Sullivan County’s Division of Public Works will conduct a Public Information Meeting to discuss the proposed replacement of Sullivan County Bridge No. 51, which carries Briscoe Rd. (County Route 142) over the outlet of Swan Lake. This project is funded through the NYSDOT BridgeNY program.

The meeting will be held at the Liberty Senior Center, 119 North Main St., Liberty, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to obtain comments from interested parties and stakeholders related to proposed project and discuss environmental and traffic concerns.

Barton & Loguidice, D.P.C., under contract with the County, is currently developing plans for this project following NYS Department of Transportation requirements. The project work being considered involves the removal and replacement of the existing single-span bridge and replacement with another single-span bridge structure. Planning and design work is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2026, with anticipated construction starting in the spring of 2027.

County Treasurer Kathleen Lara led a New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Finance School seminar last week about short-term rentals, exploring their financial and regulatory implications for local governments, including taxation, enforcement challenges, and balancing revenue opportunities with community concerns. Joining her from Sullivan County were Deputy County Treasurer Khris DiBartolo, Management & Budget Commissioner Anna-Marie Novello and Management & Budget Director Lucrezia Anderson. In collaboration with the NYS Comptroller's Office and the NYS Treasurers and Finance Officers Association, NYSAC's Finance School offers 2 ½ days of specialized finance trainings that are tailored to the needs of county finance professionals, including budget officers, treasurers, comptrollers, finance directors, auditors, and real property tax directors.
