PRESS RELEASE

Community Members Sought to Serve on the Monticello Housing Authority Board

Monticello, New York β€” August 27, 2026

The Mayor of the Village of Monticello is seeking qualified members of the community who are interested in serving as Commissioners of the Monticello Housing Authority Board.

There are currently openings on the Housing Authority Board, and the Village is encouraging residents and other qualified individuals who are interested in public service to consider applying.

An Independent Public Entity

The Monticello Housing Authority (MHA) is a separate public entity and is not a department, board, or branch of the Village of Monticello government. Municipal housing authorities are established under the New York State Public Housing Law and operate as public corporations with their own legal powers, responsibilities, property, finances, and governing board.

The Housing Authority is governed by its Board of Commissioners, whose members have important responsibilities for the oversight and operation of the Authority.

An Opportunity for Community Service

Serving as a Housing Authority Commissioner is a community service position. Commissioners have an important responsibility in providing oversight, leadership, accountability, and direction for the Housing Authority and in helping ensure that it effectively serves the residents who depend upon its programs and housing.

The Mayor is seeking individuals who are willing to devote their time and experience to this important public responsibility.

Individuals who are interested in serving should submit a written statement to the Mayor of the Village of Monticello indicating their desire to serve and providing information about their:

Professional and community experience;
Education, training, or other qualifications;
Experience in housing, property management, finance, law, government, nonprofit organizations, or community service, if applicable;
Understanding of the responsibilities of public service; and
Any other information they believe would be relevant to their consideration.
Expressions of interest and qualifications should be submitted to the Mayor of Monticello no later than September 10, 2026. Email to: [email protected]

The Village encourages qualified individuals who are committed to public service and to improving the quality of housing and services available to the community to consider serving.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the Monticello community through unpaid public service.
