๐Ÿ’ข Public announcement from the Chief โ€ผ๏ธ

A couple of days ago, a Facebook post was made stating that there was an attempted robbery involving a purse snatching at one of our local convenience stores.

As of 8:00 A.M. on August 28, 2026, no report has been filed with our department. The manager of the business has reached out and is fully cooperating with us in an effort to identify the suspect.

We need the victim and any witnesses to come forward so we can begin an investigation into this incident. We will not tolerate this kind of criminal behavior in our town.

Investigator English passed away early this morning after courageous but unsuccessful efforts by a team of dedicated trauma surgeons and medical professionals to save her life following injuries she sustained in a motorcycle accident on Saturday.
Andretta joined the Forrest County Sheriff's Office on February 26, 2024, serving first as a Patrol Deputy. From her very first day, her passion for serving others was evident. Her dedication, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to this profession quickly earned the respect of those around her. Earlier this year, she was assigned to the Investigations Division, where she continued to excel and make a lasting impact on our agency and the citizens we serve.
Andretta was known for her quiet strength, determined spirit, and compassionate heart. She approached every assignment with professionalism and integrity, and her kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her. She will be deeply missed by her Sheriff's Office family and by all who knew her.
Before answering the call to law enforcement, Andretta spent several years serving her community with AAA Ambulance Service. The compassion, professionalism, and dedication she demonstrated as a paramedic carried with her throughout her law enforcement career. We extend our sincere appreciation to the leadership and employees of AAA Ambulance Service for the love, support, and compassion they have shown Andretta's family and our Sheriff's Office family during this difficult time. We know they, too, have lost a cherished member of their family.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the trauma surgeons, ICU nurses, physicians, and the entire medical staff who fought tirelessly to save her life. We also wish to thank the Forrest General Hospital Police Department and the many officers from law enforcement agencies across our region who stood beside Andretta's family and our agency with their presence, prayers, and unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time.
Please keep Investigator English's family, friends, and our entire Sheriff's Office family in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of one of our own.
Rest easy, Investigator Andretta English. Thank you for your service, your compassion, and your sacrifice. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will remain with us forever.

As your Police Chief, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Retired Captain Charles H. White.

Captain White served honorably with the Monticello Police Department for 32 years. After his retirement in 2008, he continued serving others by volunteering his time as the security officer at Duncan Chevron and Nannyโ€™s Diner. he remained a familiar face in the community, serving others over a cup of coffee.

As Charlesโ€™ nephew, I want to thank him for being a role model throughout my life. I am proud to continue his legacy of service as part of our familyโ€™s more than 50 years of dedication to law enforcement and our community.

There is no doubt about Charlesโ€™ love for Lawrence County or his unwavering commitment to the people who call it home. His service and constant presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Please keep our family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
