The San Juan County Economic Development Department staff was grateful to attend today’s meeting hosted by Utah Navajo Health System (UNHS). UNHS has also been one of our Learning Exchange presenters, so it was great to continue that partnership outside of our regular Learning Exchange meetings.
Opportunities like this allow us to continue building relationships, supporting one another, and connecting organizations and resources throughout San Juan County.
Thank you to UNHS and everyone who participated today for continuing to work together to strengthen and support our communities!

Today was an incredible day in San Juan County, Utah, learning firsthand about Utah’s role in America’s uranium and energy future.
We brought together Utah State Senate leaders, Governor’s Office staff, San Juan County commissioners, Utah State University, UDOGM, FFSL, GOEO, and industry leaders to discuss responsible development, jobs, energy security, and economic opportunity.
White Mesa Mill — Energy Fuels
We toured White Mesa Mill near Blanding, currently the only operating conventional uranium mill in the United States. The facility is an important part of America’s domestic uranium and critical-minerals supply chain.
Velvet-Wood — Anfield Energy
We also learned about Anfield Energy’s past-producing Velvet-Wood Uranium & Vanadium Project. The project is focused on reopening an existing underground mine with minimal new surface disturbance, modern regulatory standards, water management, and reclamation bonding. It is targeting production by the end of 2026.
Utah’s Mine-to-Mill Future
Velvet-Wood could supply ore to Anfield’s Shootaring Canyon Mill, which is advancing toward a potential 2027 restart. Together, these projects could create a Utah-based mine-to-mill supply chain, supporting 40–60 direct mine jobs, future mill employment, trucking, contractors, and local businesses.

Today was about collaboration, responsible resource development, jobs, rural economic growth, and strengthening America’s domestic energy security.
Utah has the resources, workforce, and opportunity to help lead America’s uranium renaissance — responsibly and together.

Today in Mexican Water, Utah!
Our San Juan County Economic Development Department is honored to be presenting today to the Navajo Utah Commission of the Navajo Nation Council during their regular meeting.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share about our Economic Development Learning Exchange Project and discuss ways we can continue building strong partnerships, creating opportunities, and supporting economic growth across San Juan County.

And what a beautiful setting to do it in — this beautiful chapter house!

Thank you to the Navajo Utah Commission for welcoming us and for the continued collaboration between our communities.

Yesterday was another great day spent connecting with our communities across San Juan County!
We had the opportunity to meet with leaders and community members at the Mexican Water Chapter House to discuss ways we can work together to support economic development, explore new opportunities, and build stronger partnerships that benefit the community. These conversations are so important because they help us better understand local needs and identify resources that can make a real difference.
We also had the chance to stop by the White Mesa Education Center to touch base, strengthen relationships, and continue conversations about future collaboration and educational opportunities. Building strong partnerships with our schools, organizations, and community leaders is an important part of creating lasting opportunities throughout San Juan County.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with us, share your ideas, and welcome us into your communities. We look forward to continuing these conversations and working together to create positive opportunities for our residents.
