Mayor Aaron Sims is pleased to announce that members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be cleaning select headstones at the City of Monticello Cemetery this month as part of their commitment to community service and preserving our nation’s history.
The DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to preserving American history, securing America’s future through education, and promoting patriotism.
🇺🇸Founded on October 11, 1890, the organization continues to make a meaningful impact in communities across our country.
Each October, DAR members are encouraged to participate in a DAR Day of Service by completing a community service project that reflects the organization’s mission and values.
“Taking the time to care for the final resting places of those who came before us is a meaningful way to honor our history and show respect for the generations who helped shape our community. WE are grateful to the DAR members for choosing Monticello for this special project and for their dedication to preserving our history.”
On behalf of the City of Monticello, thank you to the members of the DAR for your generosity, patriotism, and commitment to serving our community. Your efforts help ensure that the stories and memories of those who came before us are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.❤️
Small acts of service make a lasting difference in the community WE all call home.
