🎨 Ready to create a winning 4-H poster exhibit? Here are some quick tips to make your project stand out at the fair! πŸ€

βœ… Keep your message clear, simple, and easy to read from 6–8 feet away
βœ… Use eye-catching visuals that support your main idea
βœ… Don’t overcrowd your poster β€” white space helps your design shine
βœ… Choose colors and text sizes that grab attention
βœ… Make sure your facts come from credible sources and give credit where it’s due
βœ… Be ready to explain what you learned and how you created your exhibit

Remember: judges want to see YOUR learning, creativity, and effort! πŸ’‘πŸ™Œ

These tips work for any poster at fair, but we especially hope to see your creativity in the 4-H Poster Communication Exhibit where you share information using one of four themes:

πŸ’» Little Coders – Explore the basics of coding and technology through fun, age-appropriate challenges.

Available 3–6 Grade Camps:
🌊 4-H Ocean Explorers – Dive into STEM with ocean-themed engineering, coding, and discovery activities with Lego Robotics.
πŸ„ Pen to Pasture – Learn about livestock, agriculture, animal science, and where our food comes from through interactive experiences.
🌿 Grow and Know – Discover the science behind plants, food systems, and the natural world through hands-on learning.

As you enter your STATIC projects in Fair Entry, you may notice a new field this year called "entry description." Please fill out the description to the best of your ability. If you still aren't sure on the details, it is ok to be a bit vague but if your project is selected for the Iowa State Fair, we will need to edit it with a more descriptive entry.

🎨 4-H Families: Help your 4-H'er get ready for judging in Visual Arts, Home Improvement, and Clothing & Fashion!

Successful design exhibits do more than look goodβ€”they show an understanding of the elements and principles of design.
Encourage youth to think about and be prepared to discuss:

πŸ”Ή Elements of Design: line, shape, color, texture, form, and space
πŸ”Ή Principles of Design: balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity

When preparing for judging, ask your 4-H'er:
✨ Which design elements did you intentionally use?
✨ How do the colors, textures, or shapes work together?
✨ What is the focal point of your design?
✨ How does your design create balance or unity?
✨ What design choices are you most proud of?

Judges want to hear how youth used design concepts to create a project that is both functional and visually appealing. Practicing these conversations before the fair can help build confidence and showcase the learning behind the exhibit.
