Today members spent time training on aerial-based high-angle rescue operations utilizing Ladder 20.

While our aerial device is most commonly associated with fire suppression, it also serves as a valuable rescue tool when faced with difficult access situations. During this training, crews reviewed patient packaging, stokes rigging, aerial tip operations, and the safe removal of a victim from an elevated position using a stokes basket and rope rescue equipment.

These types of incidents are low-frequency but high-risk events. Whether it’s a worker injured on a roof, a patient trapped in an elevated location, or a rescue in an area inaccessible by conventional means, our members must be prepared to safely and efficiently remove patients while protecting both rescuers and victims.

The public often sees the finished product when we arrive on an emergency scene. What they don’t always see are the countless hours spent training to ensure we’re ready when those calls come.

We’d like to thank Loyalsock Volunteer Fire Co. and Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Company for participating in tonight’s joint training focused on the Incident Commander’s Tactical Worksheet. Each department now utilizes the same command board shown in the photo below, creating a common framework for managing emergency incidents.

Chief officers from each department worked through multiple incident scenarios, discussing the effective use of the command board, implementation of tactical supervisors, accountability practices, and the expansion of operations during escalating incidents requiring multiple alarms.

The integration of these Combat Ready Command Boards will enhance fireground management through a standardized approach to command, control, and operational benchmarks. By speaking the same language and utilizing the same tools, our departments are better positioned to operate seamlessly together, improving efficiency, accountability, and ultimately the safety of both our responders and the communities we serve.

Training together today helps ensure we perform together when it matters most.

Station 20 along with mutual aid units were dispatched in the 1st due this evening for a reported mobile home on fire.

Chief 23 arrived with fire showing from a single-wide mobile home. Engine 20 and Chief 1-20 (Schramm) arrived first on scene. Engine 20 proceeded to pull two attack lines for offensive operations, with Chief 2-20 (Bower) assuming a tactical supervisor role for the crews working inside. Engine 20, Tanker 20, Tanker 18 and Tanker 22 made quick work, knocking down the bulk of the fire within minutes.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival. Thanks to our mutual aid partners for their assistance.

Four members spent the past weekend in Butler County, Pa participating in the 24hr ERS.

The scenarios began at 9am Saturday and continued until 9am Sunday. During the 24hrs the crew was able to respond with our ladder truck and function using riding assignment based SOGs. We worked with 65 total participants from 13 different departments. A total of 96 scenarios covered a huge spectrum of emergencies.

We would like to thank Cranberry Township for opening their firehouse and training facility for the weekend. In addition a huge thank you to Chief Capuzzi and all of the membership of the Adams Area Fire Department for housing our rig, allowing us to stay the night, providing a meal and take in runs.

This is a one of a kind training environment and we hope to be selected again next year so we can make this a yearly weekend for our membership.
