The excavations at Madison's Temple have uncovered new artifacts!

Funding for the preservation of the Temple was provided by the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior.

The Montpelier Foundation established the Robert H. Smith Center for the Constitution in 2002. The original “Center for Constitutional Studies” was meant to be a national academy to provide seminars for educators on topics related to the U.S. Constitution.

Robert H. Smith shared our belief that helping educators become better teachers helps students become more knowledgeable about the Constitution, and that both are key to the future of America.

Temple Update from Archaeology!

The Archaeology Department is currently in the process of of restoring the Iconic Madison Temple.

Built in 1811, this structure has the longest history in its original state on the property. The to do list includes: Expose and restore the ice house entrance, re-stucco the columns, install a wood (locust) floor, and restore the entablature (band just below the temple dome).

Funding for the preservation of the Temple was provided by the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, Department of Interior.

In 18th-century Paris, the salon was where ideas came alive over candlelight and conversation. In the spirit of these salons, Montpelier launched Salon 1776, a lecture series that features a short lecture on a topic related to Montpelier and the founding-era, followed by a cocktail reception.
