Water Shutdown & Road Closure

Please be advised that on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, the City of Montpelier Department of Public Works has scheduled a water shutdown on Hubbard Street from Park Avenue to Liberty Street to repair a water main break on Hubbard Street. We anticipate the water to be shut down for no longer than 8 hours.

Hubbard Street from Park Avenue to Liberty Street will be closed to thru traffic and will remain open for LOCAL TRAFFIC only. The sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian traffic.

UPDATE: 08/31/2026 @ 12:21 PM:

Department of Public Works had to shutdown water on East State Street from Cedar Street to Main Street. We don't anticipate the water to be off for more than 4 hours. No boil water is required.

ROAD CLOSURE & WATER MAIN BREAK
August 31, 2026

Please be advised that today, August 31, 2026, the City of Montpelier Department of Public Works is repairing a water main break on East State Street near the intersection of Main Street.

Our crew will attempt to complete the repair while keeping the water service active. However, if an emergency shutdown becomes necessary during the repair, water service may be interrupted for approximately 8 hours. DPW will issue an additional notice if an emergency water shutdown is required.

The downhill lane of East State Street will be closed from Hubbard Street to Main Street. The road will remain open to LOCAL TRAFFIC only. Eastbound (uphill) traffic is expected to remain open during this work.

🚧Road Work - City Hall Parking Lot & Blanchard Court
August 25, 2026

Today, pavement milling is taking place on Blanchard Court by the paving contractor, ECI. Access from Main St. to Blanchard Ct. will be limited during this work, and it is recommended that parking lot access be via Pitkin Ct. or East State St. from Harry Sheridan Ave. Parking will be limited during the milling operations, and some delays should be anticipated. The parking lot paving has not yet been scheduled, but we will provide notice once we have a date planned for that work.

BOIL WATER NOTICE UPDATE:

Water samples sent to our lab in Williston have tested clean. The CITY-WIDE Boil Water Notice is being lifted except for the following streets:

• Elm St. from Court St. to Spring St.
• Marvin St. from Bingham St. to Hubbard St.

A second set of samples are being taken for those streets, and a second boil water end notice will be issued once we receive those results.

Update: Friday, July 24, 2026
⚠️ CITY-WIDE BOIL WATER NOTICE IN EFFECT
Water samples were taken throughout the City yesterday following the water main repair on Elm Street, and we anticipate receiving results later this afternoon. If water sample results do not test positive for coliform bacteria, the City will be able to lift the boil water order in all locations except for Elm Street between Court Street and Spring Street, and Marvin Street between Bingham Street and Hubbard Street. These portions of Elm Street and Marvin Street both had additional water main breaks yesterday and require additional water quality sampling, which is being performed this morning. The results in these locations are not expected to be received until Monday.

The City will send a City-wide VT-Alert when the boil water notice is lifted. ROAD CLOSURE & BOIL WATER NOTICE - July 23rd, 2026

Elm Street from Spring Street to Court Street is closed white water main repairs are underway.

Due to a water main break on Elm Street, loss of water pressure was experienced in various locations throughout the city. In accordance with the water supply rules, a boil water notice is required for all water system customers CITY WIDE except for the following streets Main Street from Roundabout to Route 2, State Street from Main Street to Bailey Avenue and Barre Street from Main Street to Pioneer Street which will remain in effect until after we are able to collect water samples with passing results for coliform. We will keep you updated.

Once the system is turned back on, you may experience some discolored water. Please run the cold water for approximately 5-10 minutes to clear the water.

WATER SHUTDOWN & BOIL WATER NOTICE - July 14th, 2026

The City of Montpelier Department of Public Works (DPW) has shut down water today, July 14th, 2026, at 1 Pitkin Court, 1 Blanchard Court, and 29 Main Street. This shutdown is necessary for our crews to make repairs to a water main and will be off for approximately 12 hours.

In accordance with the water supply rules, a boil water notice is required for all water system customers at 1 Pitkin Court, 1 Blanchard Court, and 29 Main Street are on boil water order which will remain in effect until after we are able to collect water samples with passing results for coliform. We will keep you updated.

Once the system is turned back on, you may experience some discolored water. Please run the cold water for approximately 5-10 minutes to clear the water.

Please use caution when traveling through active work zones, watch for crews and equipment, and expect temporary traffic impacts while this important work is completed.
