As graduation season concludes, The Vermont Department of Labor wants to congratulate all graduates on this great achievement.🎓

For high school seniors, remember that there is no single path to success, and most of us change paths over the course of our careers and lives. Whether you're heading to college, starting a registered apprenticeship, entering the workforce, serving in your community, or taking a gap year to figure out what’s next, the most important thing you can do is stay curious, connected to something you find meaningful, and engaged with others.

To the college graduates, Vermont needs your talent, creativity, and determination in every corner of our economy and communities. There has never been a better time to start a career here. Vermont offers something increasingly rare: a chance to make a difference from day one, work closely with mentors, and see the impact of your efforts firsthand. With many experienced workers nearing retirement, opportunities for advancement and leadership will continue to expand across the state.

“Whatever path you choose, know that it has value. Every path can lead to meaningful opportunities, personal growth, and a bright future. We are proud of all Vermont's graduates and look forward to seeing the impact you'll make.” -Kendal Smith, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Labor.

Attention Vermont Employers: Plan Now to Protect Workers from Heat Stress.

When temperatures rise, so does the risk for on-the-job heat illness.

Here’s what employers can do:
☀️Provide water, rest, and shade
☀️Modify schedules to avoid peak heat
☀️Train workers to spot heat illness symptoms
☀️Use the AIHA Heat Stress App for real-time guidance
☀️Have a medical emergency plan in place

It'll be a hot and humid day across the region today as temperatures climb into the 80s to near 90 degrees with dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s. This will lead to heat indices in the 90s for many locations and close to 100 degrees in the lower Connecticut River Valley. A heat advisory is in effect for eastern Windham and eastern Windsor Counties in Vermont from noon to 8 PM today.

Our recent stop for Governor Phil Scott's Capital for a Day took our team to Rutland County.

We began the day with a Hospitality and Culinary Industry Roundtable, where employers discussed workforce needs and learned about available state resources. The Vermont Department of Labor's Wage & Hour team also hosted an educational seminar, answering employer questions and offering guidance on wage and hour laws.

Later, our team visited the Vermont Country Store Distribution Center in North Clarendon. This iconic Vermont business is celebrating 80 years of serving customers across the country and around the world.

Thank you to our hosts, employers and state partners for a great day.
