Northfield Progress Update! Last week, volunteers prepared the foundation for covered steps leading to Unit 3 in the Northfield Triplex! They also worked to prepare for a shed that will be located beneath the steps and the deck foundation for the stair landing.

Just shy of one year since groundbreaking, this property is on the cusp of welcoming three new homeowners to the Northfield community! Thank you volunteers, thank you sponsors, thank you homeowners, thank you Northfield!

Homeowner Highlight! Northfield, meet your neighbor, Paul!

I am an Army veteran originally from Houston, Texas. During my life and military service, I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world and experience many different places and people.

After going through a very difficult period in my life, I moved to Rhode Island to be closer to my brother, who has been a rock in my life and supported me through many hard times. I eventually found my way to Vermont, where Northfield has become my home, and after arriving here I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

The Veterans’ Place became an important source of support and stability as I faced that challenge and rebuilt my life, and today I am grateful to give back by volunteering and helping other veterans, with my faith continuing to guide me as I move forward.

Becoming a Habitat homeowner means more to me than simply owning a home. After everything I have been through, having a place of my own in a community that I love represents stability, independence, and a future I can look forward to. Northfield has become my home, and I am incredibly grateful to Habitat for giving me an opportunity I never thought I would have.

Affordable Home Ownership 🏡 Let's talk about it!

There's some understandable confusion about what a phrase like "building affordable home ownership opportunities" can mean for Vermonters. It's the bread and butter of our work at Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity and it comes with some misunderstandings.

What we do:
✅ Build homes in Vermont
✅ Homes are SOLD to prospective home owners who may have difficulty obtaining a traditional mortgage approval
✅ Homeowners purchase their homes and commit to hundreds of hours of labor to help build their home

We do not:
❌ Rent or act as landlords in Vermont
❌ Give away homes or build free homes

There will likely always be confusion about what "affordable housing" means, but it's pretty simple. It's housing that's affordable. It's not a giveaway, it's not a rental, it's not a temporary shelter. It's houses being created and sold at a price that's affordable, attainable, and fair.

If you're interested in learning more or applying for home ownership, applications are open for Northfield, Vermont!

Gillespie Pitches In!
The Habitat for Humanity triplex on North Main Street is now well underway, and fundraising has kicked into high gear as well.

Gillespie Fuels and Propane donated use of its earth digger for some of the site work recently. An open house to show the progress will be hosted on August 29.

Community participation is crucial to success, whether through volunteer labor, donations of materials, or cash. Homeowners have been selected, including a veteran, for two units while applications are still coming in for the third.

All will be affordable but require adequate stable income for a mortgage. Partner homeowners are already contributing work hours and helping to choose finishes. For information call 802- 522-8611 or check the Habitat web site at www.centralvermonthabitat.org/

Celebrating Global Impact 🌎 In addition to constructing properties that create affordable home ownership opportunities for Vermonters, Central Vermont Habitat for Humanity contributes to the global efforts of Habit for Humanity.

Here are some of the incredible impacts we've made together:

In the fiscal year 2026, U.S. affiliates tithed more than $14.5 million to support Habitat’s country programs abroad!

Collectively, more than $635,000 tithed to the Orphans and Vulnerable Groups Fund, more than $673,000 tithed to the International Disasters Fund and more than $2.9 million tithed to the Global Mission Fund!

Individually, we each contribute to massive change in our communities and our world. However you participated, by donating to one of our ReStores, swinging a hammer at a build, becoming a homeowner, lending your knowledge and expertise, engaging on social media, Cars for Homes, a financial donation, or anything else, THANK YOU!

You made this possible.

Volunteer Appreciation 🚧🎉 THANK YOU Nick, David, and Tom who have been working on the triplex in Northfield!

⚠️ We could use a few more folks who are comfortable working on ladders as we install sheetrock throughout the home. Interesting in volunteering?
