During a breakfast at the Holy Mountain Franciscan Retreat Center in Garrison on Friday, June 5, the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber Foundation awarded 11 students with $1,500 scholarships. Congratulations to Hendrick Hudson High School seniors Brody Marcus and Jack Hiltsley for being selected!

These two impressive Sailors were celebrated alongside students from Lakeland, Peekskill, Putnam Valley, Croton-Harmon, Walter Panas, Kennedy Catholic, and Yorktown High Schools — during the organization’s annual Foundation Scholarship Breakfast. Hendrick Hudson Superintendent of Schools Michael A. Tromblee and Hendrick Hudson High School Principal Lisa Martino Alves were in attendance for the presentation.

During the event, the Gateway Chamber Foundation awards eight academic and three vocational scholarships to seniors from the eight total schools who plan to pursue advanced-level education after high school. The scholarship winners are chosen based on academic record; leadership; extracurricular activities in the student’s school and community; honors, awards and recognitions received; and work experience.

👏 Cheers to Brody and Jack for this prestigious recognition!

⚓🎨🔆 As part of the school spirit celebrations last Friday at Hendrick Hudson High School, art students in Ms. Nash's classes participated in a hands-on cyanotype printing activity. Using a historic photographic process that creates blue-and-white images with sunlight, students produced a collaborative banner with the words "Hen Hud Sailors" representing our school community during the Spring Pep Rally.

The students learned how cyanotypes work, from arranging stencils to exposing their work in the sun and developing final prints with water. During the pep rally, the project was opened to the entire school, allowing students and staff to stop by, learn about the process, and create their own cyanotype prints.

"The activity combined creativity, science, and school spirit while giving students a unique opportunity to explore an alternative photographic technique and celebrate what it means to be a Hen Hud Sailor," Ms. Nash said.

⚓🐾 Members of the Blue Mountain Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society organized a successful Paws and Claws Drive to support the SPCA of Westchester. Students collected much-needed pet supplies at school for animals in the SPCA’s care. They also volunteered outside of Pet Supplies Plus, a local pet store, where they encouraged community members to donate supplies and contribute to the cause.

The drive culminated in a visit to the SPCA, where students received a tour of the facility and learned about the organization’s mission and the services it provides for animals in need. Eighth grader London Kubichko was inspired to turn her love for animals into service.

"Going to the SPCA meant so much to me because I have always loved animals and have a soft spot for them," London said. "I loved getting to meet them and help drop off supplies.”

Students also had the opportunity to hear firsthand how their donations will directly benefit the animals and support the SPCA’s ongoing work, making the experience both educational and rewarding.

"This visit connected to our community service project because we got to understand where the animals we visited came from and how we as the future generation can help them," Ianna Jimenez said.

Hendrick Hudson High School students finished their week with a Spring Pep Rally, beginning on the turf and track. One highlight was an inflatable race among staff members as students cheered them on. The students then moved to the upper field and enjoyed games and snacks—including hot dogs, fries and shaved ice!

⚓🔦 Hendrick Hudson High School is proud to spotlight two outstanding student-athletes who are stepping up as leaders both on and off the field!

Juniors Addison Peskie and Carleigh Ortiz recently represented Hen Hud and Section I Athletics at regional leadership conferences, gaining valuable insights on teamwork, communication, and personal growth. From advocating for inclusivity to learning how to navigate challenging conversations, both students are bringing these lessons back to strengthen their teams and school community.

Their experiences are already sparking ideas for new initiatives and programs that will continue to build a positive, supportive environment at Hen Hud.
