Last week, local aquatic biologist Eric Gardunio and our staff coordinated with Gold Mountain Fire personnel and U.S. Forest Service-Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre & Gunnison National Forests Fish and Aquatic Program Manager Valerie Thompson to gain access into the fire closure area to rescue Uncompahgre cutthroat trout with rare genetics from the fire and threats of subsequent ash and debris flows.
