Montrose Fire Department Celebrates Fire Prevention Week with Montrose Elementary School of Innovation
Friday, October 10, 2025
Today, the Montrose Fire Department had the pleasure of welcoming 1st and 4th grade students from the Montrose Elementary School of Innovation to our station in celebration of Fire Prevention Week.
During their visit, students had the opportunity to:
- Learn about the important work of our fire department
- Participate in fire safety and prevention lessons
- Tour the fire station and meet the firefighters who serve their community
In addition to the station visit, members of our department joined students at their school this morning to help serve breakfast and bring our fire trucks on site. Throughout recess, firefighters engaged with students from all grade levels, sharing safety tips and giving everyone a closer look at our equipment.
A big thank you to the staff of Montrose Elementary School of Innovation for their ongoing support and for partnering with us to promote fire safety in our community.
🔥 Fire Safety Reminders for Families
Please take time to review these life-saving fire safety tips with your household:
- Check smoke detectors monthly
- Change smoke detector batteries every 6 months (a good reminder: when you change your clocks, change your batteries)
- If smoke alarms sound, get out and stay out — never go back inside
- Have a meeting place outside your home and go there immediately
- Once safely outside, call 911
- Plan and practice a home evacuation at least twice a year, with two ways out
- When evacuating during a fire, stay low to the ground and check doors for heat before opening
- Never play with matches or lighters
- Always practice safe cooking habits — never leave the kitchen unattended while cooking
- Properly dispose of lithium batteries to prevent fires
Let’s all do our part to stay safe and prepared. Fire prevention starts at home — and with education, we can help protect our community together.
Stay safe,
Montrose Fire Department
