Friends of Rockhaven

Friends of Rockhaven Supporting the haven in the middle of the Crescenta Valley, Rockhaven The Crescenta Valley was founded as a place of health.

There were as many as 24 sanitariums in the valley. Most of them were for respiratory diseases, but Rockhaven was to rescue women from the shameful state of the mental health industry in the early 20th century. It is the last remaining of the many sanitariums and preserves early houses and architecture of the area.

The Atwater Village Branch Library has a little history room curated by the Friends of Atwater Village village and right now they have a fabulous display including photos and some information on the Gladding McBean factory that Agnes' brother, Max, worked at!

Kinda cool The Glendale Historical Society is showing Rockhaven as one of their field trips!

A watershed event sparked the formation of TGHS in 1979 when a group of citizens banded together to save the much beloved Victorian Doctors House from the wrecking ball. They succeeded, moved the house to Brand Park, restored it and opened it as a museum.
