Montrose County School District RE-1J Personal attacks, misinformation, etc. will be blocked and/or deleted. Since that time there have been several new initiatives that the district has implemented.

Terms of Use: the purpose of this site is to keep our school community informed on important happenings across Montrose County Schools with honesty, transparency, and civility. MCSD was initially founded in 1883 and consolidated with other smaller district in 1962 to become what is currently known as MCSD. The purpose of the school district was to provide public education to students at minimum 6-

17 years of age. While some of these initiatives have been mandated by state and/or federal governments all initiatives are put into practice for the betterment of our students and future generations. MCSD currently provide services beyond the scope of just education in the four core areas (Reading, Writing, Math & Science). These additional services include, but are not limited to, behavioral and emotional health, physical health, extra curricular clubs and activities, student safety, and preparing students for post-secondary education or the workforce. MCSD currently serves any student three years of age to adulthood through our continuum of services from early childhood to adult education.

🏈👑 A HOMECOMING WIN + ROYALTY CROWNED = a great night at Montrose High School!

The Red Hawks came away with a Homecoming victory over Palisade last night, with a packed hometown crowd there to cheer them on!

Congratulations also to this year’s Homecoming Queen, Chloe Townsend, and Homecoming King, Rhett Gurule! 👑

Red Hawk pride was on full display at today’s Montrose High School homecoming parade! 🎉

From the floats and music to the cheers lining the parade route, it was a great celebration of MHS student activities, school spirit, and community support.

A great night for a longtime Pomona tradition! 🌭🍧

Last night, Pomona Elementary School’s annual Community BBQ brought students, families, teachers, staff, and neighbors together for food, fun, and time to catch up.

There were hot dogs, shaved ice, and plenty of sweet treats from Pomona’s 5th graders, who hosted a bake sale to help support their upcoming field trips.

We were honored to host school board members and education leaders from across the region for the Colorado Association of School Boards Regional Meeting last night! 🎉

These meetings bring district leaders together to share ideas, learn from one another, and take promising practices back to their own communities.

The MCSD team also had the chance to showcase the work happening in our schools, including our Career Pathways and Mastery Learning programs and share a progress update on our preschool BEST grant project.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to share our district’s story and learn alongside education leaders from across our region and beyond.

🌭 Face paint, popsicles, and a Friday night full of fun!

Cottonwood Elementary’s Back to School BBQ Bash brought students and families together last Friday evening for a relaxed, festive start to the school year.

There were FREE activities from the Montrose Recreation Center, Toadstool Face Painting, and the Montrose Children’s Museum, plus free hot dogs and chips. 🎨🍦

A big thank you to the Cottonwood PAC and the great community sponsors who made it all possible, and to Cottonwood’s 5th graders for selling sweet treats to help fund their upcoming field trips!

Important School Safety Update | Montrose High School

We want our community to be aware of a law enforcement presence at Montrose High School today.

Earlier today, MHS received an anonymous safety report through Safe2Tell that prompted a law enforcement response. School and district staff are working closely with law enforcement and will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.

School is continuing as scheduled. You may see additional law enforcement support on campus throughout the day.

We will share additional information if circumstances change or when there is a significant update.

Queremos informar a nuestra comunidad sobre la presencia de las autoridades policiales en Montrose High School el día de hoy.

Esta mañana, MHS recibió un reporte anónimo de seguridad a través de Safe2Tell, lo que generó una respuesta por parte de las autoridades policiales. El personal de la escuela y del distrito está trabajando en estrecha colaboración con las autoridades y continuará monitoreando la situación durante todo el día.

⚠️ Law Enforcement Training Alert:

The Montrose Police Department will utilize the Columbine Middle School campus for a scheduled training exercise today, August 29, from 7am - 5pm.

During this time, you may notice an increased presence of law enforcement vehicles and personnel at the school. This is a planned training event and there is no cause for concern.

Montrose County School District is proud to partner with our local law enforcement agencies by providing a space for training that helps strengthen emergency preparedness and supports the safety of our schools and community.

🎉 Please help us welcome another group of new staff members to the MCSD team!

Last evening, we hosted a New Hire Orientation for staff who have recently joined our district for the 2026–27 school year.

Our newest team members had the opportunity to connect with colleagues, learn more about MCSD and the community they serve, and discover the resources and support available to them throughout the school year.

We’re excited to have them as part of the MCSD team and look forward to the positive impact they’ll make on our students, schools, and community.

☀️ Before a year of “lasts” comes one pretty memorable beginning...

Last Friday morning, seniors at Montrose High School and Olathe Middle/High School gathered bright and early for Senior Sunrise — a tradition that brings classmates together to watch the sun come up and mark the beginning of their final year of high school.

One sunrise down, and a whole year of milestones, celebrations and memories still ahead. 🎓✨
