*** Westmoreland County Recertified as a Crime Prevention Community ***
On Thursday, June 11, 2026, Westmoreland County received its recertification as a Certified Crime Prevention Community (CCPC) from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The program is a public safety initiative that recognizes localities that implement comprehensive, community based strategies to reduce crime, promote public safety and enhance community relations. To obtain certification, a locality must meet twelve core elements and seven optional elements, fostering collaboration between law enforcement and the community.
I am extremely proud and honored to accept the recertification for Westmoreland County as a Certified Crime Prevention Community. The collaborative efforts of the many entities within the county to achieve this status is a testament to the unwavering commitment to public safety. Congratulations!! Job well done!!
Westmoreland County was initially certified in May 2023 and is one of sixeen localities within the Commonwealth of Virginia to achieve this designation. A presentation is being planned for the July 13th meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
