Assistant Chief Briskey, Captain Johnson, and Lieutenant Burger responded to this call back in June. Until it was brought to their attention, they were unaware of Connor’s heroic actions that were instrumental in saving his grandmother’s life that day. We at Montville Fire and Rescue are grateful for Connor and his actions that day.

Nine-year-old Connor Talty saved his grandmother from a near drowning. I was honored that he and his family accepted my invitation to recognize Connor's heroism at today's Geauga County Board of County Commissioners session.

Being brave doesn't mean not being afraid. It means when scary things happen, you feel the fear but act anyway. That's exactly what Connor did for his grandmother.

Thank you to Montville Fire Rescue for making today even more special for him, welcoming him as an honorary member and presenting him with his own department-issue helmet.

Given the prevailing windy conditions, it is advisable for all individuals to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from downed power lines. Additionally, road closures are implemented for your safety; please detour around any closed roads.

Our department responded to a reported tree down across the roadway with wires involved and confirmed the situation upon arrival. Further investigation revealed a tow strap affixed to the tree and drag marks on the road, indicating an attempt to remove the tree prior to our arrival. We appreciate the willingness to assist; however, we would like to caution individuals to thoroughly assess the situation before taking any action to remove the tree. We hope that no one was injured or received a shock during the attempt. If you are the owner of the tow strap, please visit our station to retrieve it.
