Tonight during the Moody Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy, we were grateful to have Deputies Sgt. Alexander and McLaughlin with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office who taught our class about recognizing signs and behaviors associated with mental health concerns and provided information on mental health resources available to individuals in need. They also discussed the involuntary commitment process and the importance of seeking appropriate legal guidance when dealing with situations involving mental health concerns. Sgt. Smith and Officer Brasher with the Moody Police Department covered proper procedures and officer safety during traffic stops and demonstrated how quickly a traffic stop can escalate. They had three volunteers participate in realistic traffic-stop scenarios and gave them an opportunity to experience some of the challenges and split-second decisions law enforcement officers face during traffic stops.

Tonight at the Moody Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy we touched on three different but very important topics. Officer McGuffie who is our FTO (Field Training Officer) Coordinator spoke on what a rookie or a newly transferred veteran officer would be trained in. This is to ensure that the officer knows the administrative procedures about the Moody Police Department policies and procedures and of course our city streets. Officer Chapple and his drug K9 Deke gave an awesome demonstration of how Deke uses his nose to seek out illegal narcotics. The class enjoyed this immensely. Next we welcomed Chief Walton and Captain Brakefield from the Odenville Police Department. They along with our own Detective Walton gave a class on THI (Traffic Homicide Investigation) and its purpose and intent when working fatality accidents. They demonstrated an instrument called the Trimble X9 LiDAR 3D Scanner. This instrument scans an accident scene and measures objects to scale. We were happy to have all of our instructors tonight and look forward to next week.

LIFESAVING AWARDS

Tonight, the Moody Police Chief was proud to recognize Sergeant Bryan Smith and Officer Andrew Praytor with the Lifesaving Award for their actions during a recent medical emergency.

Both officers responded to a 911 call and arrived at a residence where a woman was unresponsive and without a pulse. Sgt. Smith immediately took over from a family member and began CPR while Officer Praytor retrieved an AED.

Utilizing training that was provided just two days prior on newly purchased AED’s, the AED was used successfully.

As a result of their quick response and decisive actions, the patient regained a heartbeat. Moody Fire continued to provide medical treatment and the patient was transported to the hospital. Today, she continues to recover.

When seconds mattered, these officers relied on their training, worked as a team, and acted without hesitation. Their actions gave this woman a chance to survive and exemplify the service we expect from the men and women of the Moody Police Department.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Smith and Officer Praytor on receiving their Lifesaving Awards and recognizing them for a job exceptionally well done.

It's soon to be traffic time!! This post contains information regarding Moody Elementary, Intermediate, Middle, and High School traffic patterns.

Dates for ALL schools:
Wednesday August 12th: First day students last name A-K.
Thursday August 13: First day students last name K-Z.
Friday August 14: ALL students.

Please see the attached two maps for when school traffic starts.

Officers will be posted to help assist in traffic control. Signs will also be placed on MES route showing which direction to take.

Elementary:
1) If you turn on Church St. from Park Ave., you will be asked to turn around. This entrance is only for buses, faculty, and special education.
2) Also this year, pre-k drop off will STAY in the normal drop off line, going up the hill and not past it.
3) Pre-K pickup is 1:50-2:15.
4) K-2 pickup is allowed to move up the hill at 2:20. This is so the Pre-K can flow out. If you are picking up K-2, please DO NOT go up before 2:20 or you'll find yourself at the end of the line. As with last year, you may start line up BEHIND the Civic Center at the stop sign. We ask that you hold off lining up until about 1:50. Do not block cars that are parked at the civic center. Do not block the back parking lot.
5) Traffic that lines up on Carl Morgan/Church Street (by First Baptist) before 2:20 will be asked to move to the end of the line and not block the roadway.

Intermediate:
1) As in years past, you MUST enter from Kerr Road. If you can exit back to Kerr, that would help the best. However, you will be allowed to exit onto HS Drive if you have other children to drop off.

Middle and High School (NEW INFO!!!)
1) Both car lines will flow BEHIND the new Moody High School.
2) Middle school before AND after school: Use the left lane and go around the HS. When you come to the main road, you will turn left and drop off in the circle.
3) High School before AND after school: You will use the right lane, drop off behind school, and then will turn right on the main road to exit.

As always, it's pretty hectic the first few full days of school but it will even out. Please be patient the first couple weeks, especially with the new construction, and we appreciate your help and understanding as we all adjust to the traffic again.

Big shout out to the East Central Patriots for stoping by with some snacks!!! We wish them the best in their upcoming season.

East Central is always thankful for the selfless efforts the men and women in blue put in for their communities. Head Coach Smith along with some of the JV/Varsity players and team members were able to show a small token of that appreciation to the Moody Police Department. Always thankful for the support and custom merch provided by Big Daddy Stitches. A man in uniform is great, but Chief you never looked better in patriot colors! ❤️🤍💙
