VERTS instructors have been teaching emergency services classes in the state of Virginia since 1993. We have performed training in the continental US for Fire Departments and the Department of Defense. Our instructors have also delivered training internationally for the US Department of State. In January of 2016 we organized to continue this training as Virginia Emergency Response Training Systems or VERTS.

Today’s workout was the NNFD training tower on SCBA breathing air. Started with 5000 in the bottle. 12 times up 12 times down before out of air. 441 feet of vertical.

“It starts with one step.”

Any path that you choose has a beginning. You don’t need to see exactly where it goes along the way and you don’t need to see each turn. You just need to find the trailhead.

There will be easy and hard parts. The easy parts will mean little to you. The hard parts will mean the most. Nothing of value comes without sacrifice.

Far too often we don’t succeed because we feel we have to have a detailed plan and if we deviate from it we have failed. Life doesn’t work that way. We have work, family, friends and many other things pulling at us. Any one of these can take us off the path.

Something has made you want change in your life. This is what has set you on this journey. If you get off the path it doesn’t mean you are lost. Just not where you thought you wanted to be at that moment.

Go back and take that first step again. Each time you do this it becomes easier. I don’t wake up each morning with a training plan. It develops on my way to where I am going.

I listen to my body and my brain but I make the choice what I will do. What I find every time is that once I take the first step my body and brain fall in-line.

No headphones, no music no distractions just me taking steps. After enough I have arrived at my destination and tomorrow I will do it again take that “One step”.

I am here to help you take your first step and everyone after that. Post what you are doing. Though our paths will be different our goals will be the same. We have a desire to change and it only takes one step to start.

Know your software and its capabilities don’t just accept what is listed on it for MBS. Dynamic loads create forces that can exceed the strength of the tool.
