I’m excited to recognize Daniel C. Leoncini as our Veteran of the Month!
A lifelong Bergen County resident, Daniel C. Leoncini was born and raised in Little Ferry and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 2007. Following his high school graduation, he answered the call to serve our nation by joining the United States Marine Corps, where he was assigned to the Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team. In 2009, he deployed to Spain in support of critical security operations before later transitioning to serve as an infantryman.
Daniel deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2011 as a machine gunner during combat operations. In February 2012, he was seriously wounded by an improvised explosive device blast, sustaining a traumatic brain injury. For his courage and sacrifice in service to our country, he was awarded the Purple Heart. After his recovery, he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2013.
However, his commitment to public service did not end with his military career. In 2015, Daniel joined the Moonachie Police Department, where he continues to protect and serve our residents. He is also an active member of the Bergen County SWAT Team and is the President of PBA Local 102, representing and advocating for his fellow officers.
Away from his uniform, Daniel is a devoted husband and father. He has been married for ten years to his high school sweetheart, and together they are raising two young boys, ages five and two.
The County of Bergen proudly recognizes Daniel C. Leoncini for his bravery, sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to serving both our nation and our community. His story is a reminder of the courage and commitment shown by the men and women who protect our freedoms and ensure safety in our neighborhoods every day.
