🔥 VIDEO FORECAST UPDATE | SEPTEMBER STARTS HOT

September may be here, but summer isn't finished with us yet.

In today's video forecast update, I'm tracking a stretch of hot and increasingly humid weather across Rowan, Davie, Davidson and Cabarrus counties.

🌡️ Temperatures climb well into the 90s through Friday.
🥵 Triple-digit heat index values are expected in parts of the region.
⚠️ Cabarrus County could see a heat index around 105° Wednesday.

Then attention turns toward the weekend.

⛈️ A cold front is expected to approach Saturday, bringing increasing opportunities for showers and thunderstorms. The environment could become more favorable for storms as the front moves through, so I'll also be watching for any potential stronger or severe storms.

It's still too early to determine how significant that threat could become.

The good news? Behind the front, we could finally knock down the humidity and get some relief from this stretch of late-summer heat.

🔥 CABARRUS COUNTY FORECAST | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

September is starting with dangerous heat across Cabarrus County, and temperatures will climb even higher through the end of the workweek.

🔥 TODAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 95°. Heat index values could reach 102°.

🌙 TONIGHT: Mostly clear with a low around 72°.

⚠️ WEDNESDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 97°. The heat index could reach 105° during the afternoon.

🔥 THURSDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 98°.

🔥 FRIDAY: Another very hot day with a high near 98°.

☀️ SATURDAY: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 95°. The current forecast keeps daytime rain chances out of Cabarrus County.

🌧️ SATURDAY NIGHT: A 40% chance of showers develops between 8 PM and 2 AM as a cold front approaches.

WHAT I'M WATCHING 👀

⚠️ DANGEROUS HEAT: Wednesday through Friday will be the hottest stretch of the week. Wednesday's heat index could reach 105°, putting us around Heat Advisory territory.

⛈️ WEEKEND FRONT: A cold front and upper-level disturbance will approach the Carolinas this weekend. While the current Cabarrus County forecast holds rain chances until Saturday night, I'll be watching closely for changes in the timing and any potential thunderstorm concerns.

Some relief from the humidity should eventually follow the front.

September is starting with a stretch of serious summer heat across Davidson County, and temperatures will climb even higher later this week.

🌫️☀️ TODAY: Patchy early fog, then sunny with a high near 95°. Heat index values could reach 100°.

🌙 TONIGHT: Mostly clear with a low around 72°.

🔥 WEDNESDAY: Sunny with a high near 96°. Heat index values could reach 102°.

🔥 THURSDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 96°.

🔥 FRIDAY: Potentially the hottest day of the stretch with a high near 98°.

⛈️ SATURDAY: Changes begin arriving. Mostly sunny with a high near 94° and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 PM. Rain and storm chances increase to 40% Saturday night.

WHAT I'M WATCHING 👀

🔥 HEAT: Wednesday through Friday will be the peak of this heat wave. Heat Advisories are likely for portions of central North Carolina. Even where advisory criteria aren't reached, the combination of heat and humidity will require extra caution.

⛈️ SATURDAY STORMS: A cold front approaching the region will bring our best opportunity for thunderstorms. A severe storm threat cannot be ruled out, but confidence remains too low to determine the magnitude or coverage of any threat.

Behind the front, temperatures and humidity should finally begin trending downward.

September is starting hot across Davie County, and temperatures will climb even higher through the middle and latter part of the week.

☀️ TODAY: Sunny with a high near 93°.

🌙 TONIGHT: Clear with a low around 71°.

🔥 WEDNESDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 95°. Heat index values could reach 101°.

🔥 THURSDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 96°.

☀️ FRIDAY: More sunshine and heat with a high near 96°.

⛈️ SATURDAY: Changes begin to arrive. Mostly sunny with a high near 92° and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 PM. Rain and storm chances increase to 40% Saturday night.

WHAT I'M WATCHING 👀

🔥 HEAT: Wednesday through Friday will bring the hottest stretch of the week. Wednesday's heat index could reach the lower 100s.

⛈️ SATURDAY STORMS: An approaching cold front and upper-level disturbance should provide a more favorable environment for thunderstorms. It's too early to determine whether severe weather will become a significant concern, but I'll be monitoring the setup closely.

Behind the front, lower humidity should finally provide some relief from this stretch of hot and muggy weather.

September is starting with some serious summer heat across Rowan County.

☀️ TODAY: Sunny with a high near 94°. Heat index values could reach 100°.

🌙 TONIGHT: Clear with a low around 71°.

🔥 WEDNESDAY: Sunny and hot. High near 96° with heat index values as high as 103°.

🔥 THURSDAY: Sunny and hot with a high near 97°.

☀️ FRIDAY: More sunshine and heat with a high near 97°.

⛈️ SATURDAY: Changes begin to arrive. Mostly sunny with a high near 93° and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 PM. Rain and storm chances increase to 40% Saturday night as a cold front approaches.

WHAT I'M WATCHING 👀

🔥 HEAT: Wednesday through Friday will be the hottest stretch of the week. Heat Advisories could eventually be needed for portions of the region.

⛈️ SATURDAY STORMS: The atmosphere should become more favorable for thunderstorms as the front approaches. It is still too early to determine the severe weather potential, but I'll be monitoring it closely over the next several days.

The front should eventually knock down the humidity and bring at least some relief from this stretch of hot and muggy weather.

🌀 TROPICAL UPDATE | TROPICAL STORM EDOUARD

Tropical Depression Five has strengthened into Tropical Storm Edouard over the northern Gulf this evening. The latest satellite imagery shows a large area of deep thunderstorm activity associated with the system as it approaches the northwestern Gulf Coast.

As of the 7 PM CDT intermediate advisory, Edouard is continuing generally west-northwestward toward the Upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coast, and additional strengthening is expected before the center reaches the coast.

⚠️ Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for portions of the coast, with storm surge also a concern. Heavy rainfall could produce flash flooding, particularly across portions of southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana.

The satellite picture at 9:50 PM EDT shows some impressive thunderstorm development with Edouard tonight. With the system close to land, there isn't a lot of time for strengthening, but I'll be watching its organization closely overnight.

It’s still a very warm evening across much of the region as we close out August.

Some temperatures from around the area:

🔥 Salisbury: 91°
🔥 Concord: 90°
🔥 Charlotte: 90°
🔥 Statesville: 89°
🌡️ Lexington: 87°
🌡️ Mocksville: 85°
🌡️ Greensboro: 85°
🌡️ Asheboro: 82°

You can also clearly see the influence of today’s scattered thunderstorms. Denton is down to 80° following the rain, while Salisbury—just to the west—is still sitting at 91°.

And the heat is only getting started. Temperatures climb into the mid and upper 90s Tuesday through Friday, with triple-digit heat index values becoming possible across much of the region.

🌧️ FLOOD ADVISORY CANCELLED | 5:54 PM

The Flood Advisory has been cancelled for portions of Davidson, Guilford and Randolph counties.

The heavy rainfall has ended, flood waters have receded, and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat.

⚠️ Some road closures may remain in place. Continue to obey barricades and avoid any roads that remain closed due to earlier flooding.

🌧️ RADAR UPDATE | 5:40 PM

The thunderstorm that produced very heavy rainfall across eastern Davidson County earlier has weakened considerably.

Rain continues around Denton and along the Davidson/Randolph County line, but the heaviest activity has shifted southeast into Randolph County, west and southwest of Asheboro.

Because these storms have already produced substantial rainfall, localized flooding and ponding of water can continue even after the heaviest rain ends.

For the rest of Davidson County, including Lexington, conditions are much quieter on radar at this time.

⚠️ Continue to use caution around any flooded or water-covered roads. Never attempt to drive through floodwater.
