From Local History & Archives at MPL: Patrons of all ages are invited to learn about C.M. Cameron's "curious modern quilts" on June 20 at 1 p.m. at the Main Library! He'll be sharing about the history and meaning behind his quilts. While you’re here, make sure to take a moment to wander into the Williams Wing and visit the America 250: A Quilted History exhibit, which includes historic quilts from the archives along with a quilt square designed by C.M. Cameron specifically for the Mooresville Public Library in celebration of Library Month, incorporating the theme, “Find Your Joy.”
Charles Cameron is a North Carolina-based Modern Quilter. He is an engineer by training and vocation and tends toward creative endeavors to maintain balance. He has two young daughters who are his creative inspiration. Their playful experimentation and approach toward learning have shown him that not knowing how to do something can be a powerful enabler toward creating something extraordinary--to not be bound by “the ways that others do things,” or “the ways that things ought to be done.”
His work explores the use of bright colors and color value placement to enhance more traditional quilt patterns and quilt block design. He’s not afraid to bend what should be a straight line. His quilts have been published in Curated Quilts, a quarterly journal of and for modern quilters, and have been juried into QuiltCon, the world’s largest modern quilt show, presented by The Modern Quilt Guild. His quilt, Sudoku, was awarded 1st place in the Small Quilts Category at Quiltcon2022.
He’s written and published quilt patterns of his own design, and he delivers guild lectures, trunk shows and workshops to share his work and promote modern quilting. He also shares his work on Instagram .
