PSA: The N.C. Forest Service will lift the open burning ban for 81 counties at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 3.

The statewide burn ban began on March 28 because of dangerous wildfire conditions. However, the ban will remain in place until further notice for these counties: Iredell County, Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes, and Union.

While we understand there has been some rain recently, it has not been enough to reduce the fire danger, and much of the state remains in a drought. Persistent dry weather, low humidity, and wind continue to keep wildfire risk high, making it easy for fires to start and spread quickly.

Please note: lifting the state burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied home. Local fire marshals still have the authority to issue or continue burn bans within that area.

Starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 3, burn permits will be available again in counties where the ban has been lifted. Residents in those counties must get a new valid burn permit before burning, since all permits issued before the March 28 ban were canceled.

THANK YOU!

Remember:

A statewide burn ban is in effect for all 100 counties in North Carolina, starting 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, due to high wildfire risk and drought conditions. All open burning, including yard debris and campfires, is prohibited until further notice. Existing burn permits are canceled.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!

PSA!

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Bad news: You lose an hour of sleep tonight. 😴

Good news: You gained a reminder from us to check your smoke alarms.

Daylight Saving Time is the perfect reminder to check your smoke alarms. Test them, replace the batteries if needed, and make sure every level of your home is protected.

A working smoke alarm gives you early warning, extra seconds to escape, and a better chance of surviving a fire.

Winter Weather Gianna Is Here (And She May Be Choosing Violence) 🥶❄️

This week’s snowstorm is hard at work icing roads and testing everyone’s judgment. If you can stay home, please do. The phrase “I’ll just run out real quick” has never survived icy weather. that’s how slip-and-slide rescues get scheduled. Let’s not put ourselves on the books for today. But just in case, our stations are staffed and ready to assist when needed.

Trying to stay warm? We love that for you — just not the “accidental house fire” aesthetic. 🔥
• Generators: Outside only (yes, even the garage is a no)
• Propane/kerosene heaters: Indoor-approved models only
• Charcoal grills: Great for burgers, unhinged for living rooms
• CO detectors: Fresh batteries = non-negotiable

Also, a quick roadside PSA: If you see an abandoned car with fire or crime tape on the mirror closest to the road, emergency crews already handled it. ✔️ If something feels not handled — distress, fire, injuries — call 911. 📞

Bottom line: Stay home when you can, stay warm without smoke, let Gianna work through her issues from outside while you supervise from the couch.

Stay safe. Stay warm. And keep winter’s drama level low.

❄️🥶 Winter Weather Safety Reminder 🥶❄️

Temps have dropped, sleet is sleeting, ice is icing, and the roads are currently rated “absolutely not.”

If you don’t -have- to be out—don’t be. If you’re thinking, “I’ll just run out real quick,” how about we don’t. Staying indoors (when you’re able) helps keep you safe and helps us avoid turning a routine call into a slip-and-slide rescue.

🚒 First responders are ready to help if needed—but we’d rather meet you when the roads stop pretending to be a skating rink.

So grab a blanket, make some hot coffee, and let the ice storm do its thing…from the comfort and safety inside your home.

Stay safe and stay warm! ❄️🔥
