The Clay County Sheriff's Office extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Minnesota State Patrol Lieutenant Tyler Uthe.

We also extend our heartfelt sympathies to the men and women of the Minnesota State Patrol during this difficult time. We stand with you in mourning the loss of a respected leader, colleague, and friend.

Today, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognized the dedication, courage, and professionalism of our staff, partner agencies, and community members during an awards ceremony.

We honored 11 individuals who received Lifesaving Awards, Commendable Service Awards, and Medal of Valor Awards for their extraordinary actions and commitment to serving others. Their efforts reflect the very best of public service and teamwork in our community.

We also celebrated the promotional badge pinning of Sergeant Michael Fildes and Lieutenant Nicole Reno. Both leaders bring years of experience, professionalism, and commitment to the Sheriff’s Office, and we are proud to see them continue serving Clay County in their new leadership roles.

A sincere thank you to all of our deputies, corrections officers, records staff, partner agencies, families, and community supporters. Your dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for everything you do to help keep Clay County safe.

This week, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognizes and thanks all Emergency Medical Services personnel serving the residents and visitors of Clay County.

EMS responders are there during some of life’s most critical moments; providing lifesaving care, comfort, professionalism, and compassion 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their dedication and commitment make our communities safer and stronger every day.

We are grateful for the partnerships we share with ambulance services, first responders, firefighters, dispatchers, and healthcare professionals throughout Clay County who work together to answer the call whenever help is needed.

Please join us in thanking all EMS professionals for their service, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to caring for others.

When do you need a burn permit? 🔥

A burn permit is required when:
• The fire is more than 3 feet high and 3 feet in diameter
• The ground is not covered by at least 3 inches of snow
• The fire is not contained in an approved burner, cooking/heating device, or similar container

✅ A permit is NOT required when:
• The fire is contained in an approved burner, grill, or stove
• Local rules do not require permits (always check with your local fire district)
